1. Uniaud driver and midi |
|
|
| A simple quesiton - is the uniaud drivers supposed to support midi with the midi player or just through the card's hardware midi port? I have a PCI512 card and everything plays fine except for midi files. I get an Unable to open device when I try to load a midi file into the player. All other files and cds play just fine. I am using 1.0.9. regards, Adam |

| AFAIK, uniaudio does not contain a midi driver. Only .wav and CD. You can find an archaic midi player on hobbes but you will need to download musical instruments for it from somewhere. |

| Thanks guys, I was aware Timidity but I wanted to make sure that it was lack of support on the driver and not something wrong system wise. I think since that is the case I will download the SBLive .81 driver and then install timidity. I have used the this one and the past and the sound quality on wav files was a little better - no little crack sound when a system event when sound played. With the uniaud there is on occasion. regards, Adam |

| Hmmm, interesting - you know I did check and there is a FM midi driver that is installed as part of the uniaud package - unless this is for external midi only. I did uninstall it and then installed the sbliveos .81 driver and installed timidity. It plays the midi files but there is no sound. The midi editor refuses to load any midi files. I wonder if there is some gunk leftover in the mmpm2.ini file. Maybe I should uninstall the driver, copy the original mmpm2.ini file from my warp4 cd and start over with the install of the driver and timidity. regards, Adam |

Just a quick note (if I have time, I'll come back later). I think you're missing the sound patch files necessary for TiMidity to play the musical instruments. I don't remember now where you can get them (I think TiMidity readme can give you some links). Search on the net for Gravis Ultrasound MIDI patch(es). Then you have to change TiMidity conf file supplying the path to the sound patches. Sorry, but when I re-installed my system a couple of years ago, I never re-installed TiMidity (just lazy...), so I don't remember all the steps. Maybe I'm going to (re-)install it, too. Bye (hope this helps a bit). |

| I have downloaded the patches but I just discovered I did not edit the timidity.cfg file correctly. Found the correct settings for this over at the sbliveos yahoo group. Will change that and see if that is what the problem was. Thanks. Adam |

| Ok, it turns out it was a path problem in the timidity.cfg file. Once I corrected it and rebooted, it worked beautifully. The sound quality is great(SBLiveOS 0.81 drvier used) and it is fast. The stock midi editor still refuses to open any midi files but the files play just wonderfully. Adam |
