| Just wonder whether there is any way to achieve the following objective without human intervention. When the PC first start up, it boot from floppy and run some programs. When those programs completed, the server will be rebooted from harddisk only. Assume reboot can be achieved through a command Though this can be achieved by ejecting the disk from floppy drive after the first step. Would like to explore whether this can be automated. Thanks in advance. |

| I can't think of a way to do what you're looking for with a floppy, mostly because the initial bootup process (whether it goes to floppy or hard disk first) is handled in the BIOS. If you had an application which could change that bios setting for you as the last thing which runs off your floppy, you could likely accomplish this, but I'm not aware of any such applications. |

| There are some bootmanagers which will allow you to select to boot from the floppy. I don't know if any will do what you want. It should be possible to take one of the open source bootmanagers and code this function yourself.

| Hi, You'll need hardboot.com, as shipped by IBM with WorkSpace On Demand for OS/2. This is actually a small DOS program which can be run to restart booting off the local harrdisk. It re-hooks the bootstrap interrupt to only boot off the harddisk the second time around. Under WSOD, it is used to allow a network client to boot of its LAN adapter (or floppy disk for RPL emulation), check the server for updates or re-partition/re-load the OS on the harddisk, and then restart booting (without going back through POST etc) off the local HDD. Cool, eh? I don't have a copy of hardboot.com to hand, but anyone with WSOD2 will have it... Regards, Quote: |

| Fahrvenugen, davidfor, mobybrick,
Will see whether mobybrick's suggestion can achieve what I want. |
