hello,
I have a copy of Hobbes OS/2 dated 1997. I have not installed it because I don't know how. Can someone explain how? And, Can it run on a computer without any other OS on the drive? I was reading about freedos, if I have to use Dos with it, can that be used? If it's alot to explain and you have some good links with install how -to's that would help. I just think I should try it,,,everything I have been reading is good. I have always used windows and I just want somthing different and faster.
thanks

Hi Rookie,
Hobbes OS/2 was a collection of software for OS/2 on CD, *not* an O.S. Are you sure it is Hobbes OS/2 that you have?
If you want to try the OS/2 O.S. the best thing you can do is downloading an eCS demo disk from www.ecomstation.com. his is a live CD that boots directly into eComStation (the next generation OS/2).
Then, when you're ready to buy it, find a copy of OS/2 Warp4 on eBay so that you can apply for the upgrade price for eComStation.
There's *no* free OS/2.
FreeDOS is a free reimplementation of DOS. It is still quite buggy, and it comes with all the usual limitations of DOS. I'm not sure if you want to use it, especially since you're used to Windows.

Hope this helps...
Bye

Cris

There is also ReactOS - http://www.reactos.org - which is in 'beta'. It is a free open source clone of WinNT.

There is also a project to clone OS/2. It is OSFree - http:www.osfree.org - IIRC on the URL). It is (or will be ) based on the L4 kernel (according to the site). It is in 'deep alfa' (according the site). Check the 'news' section for any progress. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/osfree
