Subject : IBM Thinkpad and OS/2 Reference Site? Thinkpad Questions?

Hi all,

There used to be a really good IBM Thinkpad & OS/2 Warp site on the 'net, but lately I haven't been able to find it. Does anyone know if it moved, if there's an archive or if there's a similar site anywhere? I'm looking for good install information, driver update info, MWave info, etc for various older (currently) Thinkpads.

Among my questions (in case anyone here has some answers):
[On an IBM Thinkpad 600]

Can I replace the Crystal Sound Drivers with UniAud drivers (newest presumed)?

Can I replace the SVGA drivers with SDD v7+/SNAP? (currently have 7 licensed - will buy SNAP in future)

Is there a "best" WIRED 10/100 network card that will work in it?

Is there a "best" Wireless network card that will work in it?

Without Software Choice/Passport Advantage, is there another way to get updates that aren't on the Thinkpad Driver Matrix?

Thanks in advance,
- Robert

There is a forum at the site. There is even a section for OS/2.
http://www.thinkpads.com

Typing http://www.thinkpad.com will lead one to

Hi all,

It was Dr Martinus' Notebook/2 Site - but os2warp.be hasnt finished mirroring it yet (none of it seems up currently). It had entirely OS/2 relevant install information and links (for most Thinkpads to a few years ago - and I *think* various other laptops). I found a link via Google that I couldnt get working a few months ago to a Thinkpad 765 Install page, and checked that directory to see if there was a directory listing available (and there was), so I managed to find the references I needed...

The link (for anyone interested) is:

http://www.os2ss.com/users/DrMartinus/ibmtp/

Thanks for everyone's help,
- Rob

Hi again,

Basically, I'm planning on replacing drivers... none of the sites I've checked touch the drivers and replacement options I am considering... Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated... I've already also posted this on thinkpads.com

I've been toying with the idea of replacing some of the standard Thinkpad 600 drivers with newer 3rd party drivers to get better hardware performance and increased functionality, and before I totally hose my system I was hoping someone might have some input to offer me:

The Hardware:
- IBM Thinkpad 600 PII300, NeoMagix128 800x600x16.7Million, etc...
160MB Installed

The Drivers I am Considering Replacing:
- NeoMagix Driver with Scitech SDD v7 (last version 7 release)
and then later Scitech SNAP

- Crystal Audio Driver with UniAudio Driver and UniMixer (Latest version)

- WSeB Mouse Driver (or the occassionally ran WSeB TrackPoint 4 Driver)
with AniMouse

- All IDE, HDD, Zip, LS-120 and CDROM Drivers with DaniDrivers and
JJSCDROM

Can anyone advise me if these replacement drivers will work, or will some of the hardware only properly operate with the IBM provided drivers?

Thanks in advance,
- Robert

The 3rd parties drivers are all available w/ trouble, you can try them
out and always revert back to status quo.

I doubt you'll make a Ferrari out of a FIAT.

For the IBM products all you have to do it's just select "Support & Downloads" on their site, I am sure you know that.

ciao.

From the list of drivers, the only one that you might have trouble with is the Uniaud driver. For new sound chips, Uniaud is the only choice, but, the older Crystal chips seem to be ones that have the least luck. But, if you are intending to use one of the Windows apps that use the Innotek runtime, you will have problems unless you use Uniaud.

For the others:

 • I haven't seen anyone mention the NeoMagic video drivers. I have a NeoMagic MagicMedia 256ZX in my Dell laptop, and it works well with the SNAP drivers, and from memory the older SDD drivers. I have never tried the other drivers for this as I found them after purchasing the Scitech drivers.

 • For the mouse, I assume you mean "AMouse", not "AniMouse". If so, then I highly recommend them. "AniMouse" is the "Animated Mouse Pointers", and I like them to, but, you still need mouse drivers. AMouse and AniMouse work well here.

 • Definite yes to the DaniDrivers. But, I haven't seen a reason to use JJSDCROM driver.
