1. .PPS and eCS? |
|
|
I received .pps files but I can not view them. I assume .pps is 'power point show'? Is there a program one can see them with? (using eCS).

| Hi folks, IIRC the standard PowerPoint slideshow (that is editable) is called a ".PPT", while a package for presentation (not editable) is called a ".PPS"... Whenever someone sends me a PP*, I just fire up StarOffice and that works great. If you have a program capable of opening PPT slide shows but it doesn't work, just rename the PPT to PPS and try again (or associate that extension with the proper program). Cheers Thomas |

I will StarOffice a try in doing the .pps files. I saved them to a directory to try later. Thanks for the information. I had thought of using StarOffice but never actually tried it (sigh). I wish I had gone with my idea of trying with SO.

BWG, just to make sure: If you have a different office suite already installed, just try to use "file -> open" from either the suite or the dedicated program for presentations. So if you have Lotus suite or OpenOfice.Org, it should work as well... HTH Thomas |

I have StarOffice 5.1 and tried the 'file/open' but it did not play the .pps files. I will have to get OpenOffice for OS/2 to try it. Thanks for the information.

I installed it but I can not find where it is installed to. I tried opening a .pps file (after rebooting the computer) but eCS 1.1 still only saw it as a text file. Should one start PPView16? Where is the icon for it? Does one start it in a command line (Win-OS2) window?

11. Solved |
|
|
I had installed it to c:\programs\ppsetup. It was in a subdirectory that I found pptview.exe. I created an icon for it and put it into a directory labeled Win-OS/2 Stuff. I was able to view the .pps files (after I had shortened the names since it could not read long file names). It was neat.

BWG, I install all my win16 apps into a subdirectory below mdos. Then I open up the templates folder and drag a program object to a convenient location and set it up as a separate winos2 session (I prefer full-screen, but others may prefer a seemless). You can modify the properties of the new object and associate it with *.PPT and *.PPS. There is also the old winos2 migration tool to find dos and win16 programs and create program objects and folders. |

I did most of that except the association part. I have now done that too. Thank you for the information.
