I think a poll to show interest in an isp that speciallizes in OS/2 and/or eCS would help show the person who was proposing it that there is interest in it. If he is succesful, perhaps he could show how he did it so that others could try it in their area (state, county, country, region, etc)?

We could send him the results so he could decide if it is truly worth the effort.

I has also setup a poll at a few OS/2-eCS groups at Yahoo Groups to gauge interest. I will also send the results to hime too.

The poll would be something like 'Would you be interested in an isp service that is for users of OS/2 Warp or eComStation with local phone access numbers?'.

IIRC - the polls at the Yahoo Groups will end on the 16 of October. Each are accumulating results. I have also posted that anyone interested in this isp service should express it by sending an e-mail to the e-mail address listed.

... because an ISP has to be in some reasonable distance from my place !

I do not know where Jim and Maxwarp's service works
but I would not deal with a foreign ISP !!

It's also nonsense to live in Northern California and
having the ISP in Southern Florida ...
... or perhaps in UK or Russia !!!

Why

How do you troubleshooting with your far-distanced ISP ...
... perhaps in an unknown language !?

In response to the question raised about the isp's location.
It is USA based. I actually live in Oregon in the US and there are over 4000 dialup phone numbers across the USA (800+ of them in California) there may be some added in Canada soon.
I am a native US English speaker so there should be little difficulty with technical support coverage for the locations I am covering.
I do appreciate the questions as it helps me clarify what I am trying to set up for prospective clients.

Thanks, Jim

To the leaders of the current forum. Would it be appropriate to attach a text file of the current phone numbers available?

Jim

Adding a text file as attachement is no problem, so just go ahead.

List of current phone numbers in USA. Its function is to see if there is a local number for those who are interested.

... is located in Sweden !?

Myself I am in Switzerland.
My native language spoken is a Swiss-German dialect
and writing is German as used also in Austria and Germany.
My English sounds more a Swiss-German-English but perfect native English !

Beside of this:
Cost-intensive Dial-Up was yesterday ...
... today we speak about fixed flat rate with xDSL or (TV) Cable connections !!

My connection to the WWW is 512/125 and costs fix sFr 80.-- per month
with 24x7 service with no additional charge surprises !!!

DSL is unavailable in my area. With unlimited access with my dialup isp and unlimited use of a local phone number (in my 'local area' according to my phone service; therefore, I can make as many 'calls' to that area and still only pay one small fee) plus cable service being more than I want to pay, dialup makes more sense to me (especially since I use it mostly for e-mail and occasionally browsing the web).

... in your area ?

Do you know that there are 2 possibilities to get a DSL service ??

1) by phone line
2) by TV line

I am using xDSL for already for more than 3 years now !
Started with the TV line provider and changed to phone DSL a few month ago !!

I assume that you better recheck your availabilities of such a service in your area !?
Good luck !

In my area, XDSL is only available on phone lines. One uses a special dsl modem that uses the regular phone lines (mostly copper phone lines) that is already installed in hones home/apartment. If by 'tv line' you mean cable, digital two-way cable is available in my area but it is about $50 per month (more than I wish or am able to afford). If you 'tv line' you mean something other than television cable, I have never heard of it and wish to know more about it. Not everyone has cable or dsl. A dialup connection might be slow but it is available almost everywhere.

... means cable !

xDSL is a phone line connection of course !!

You mentioned $50 for the subscription ( and all connections) ...
... how much do you spend on Dial-UP connection fees

Currently with xDSL under ISDN I am spending about $50 fix per month !
With Dial-UP it was at least with its max about 8 times higher and much slower too !!

Well today it may change: If not at home you still need the Dial-UP !
There are interesting changes to Wireless already !!

Perhaps soon we all connect WL only !?

My isp costs about $25 a month and I pay about $5 for calling the same local number (the cost is the same no matter how often I call the local access plan since it is in my phone service local area for my number/location). It costs less for dialup than for the cable company.

Being connected via a wireless connection would be nice. I look forward to it being as available as cell phone services.
