Does anyone have any USB printer recommendations to use with OS/2 Warp? I know there is a list of printers at the IBM site that is compatible with OS/2. I am looking for what Warp users would recommend and that would not only work but work well with Warp.

Well if you want color go with the Epson C80 or so. If you are doing text use any laser with PCL5 or 6 or PS and you'll do fine.

I definitely want color. I do alot of projects; printing colorful cd labels, t-shirt transfers and future projects like making my own personalized mouse pads, window decals, etc. Another site recommended Epson c60, c70 and c80 (the last being like your recommendation). I have found a c62. Will it work with the c60 drivers?

PS I am currently looking on and off the internet for the best prices.

I saw a Canon S300 USB printer in an American Express Value Club cataloge. It was a refurbished printer for $29.95 ($9.99 for shipping and handling). I check the IBM site for a driver for it and found it. I ordered it and it arrived yesterday (11-19-2002). At first it did not work until I clicked on 'install new port' then it was seen. I printed some things using PMView, StarOffice and C-Side. It worked really nice. I recomend Canon S300 for those looking for a USB printer (there are a few Canon S series on the list as well as other Canon series at the IBM site for printer drivers for OS/2).

Do you think the driver for your C80 will work with the Stylus Color 820? I have it working with the color photo 1200 driver but it is very limited and slow. There are no provisions for head cleaning, ink level Etc.

A while ago my wife bought a EPSON C82 and it worked fine with the C80 drivers. For once I was happy to install a printer that didn't give me much of hazzle and it was even a USB printer I didn't really had too much of hopes to get it work. <grin>

In one of the computermagazines here where printers tested. The best tested was the Canon i560.
The printer has a parallel port and a USB port.
I ordered the printer and had not been search before if an OS/2 driver for it was available but thought that the parallel would work.
I've had a HP Deskjet 870 CXi before installed, but had have been a lot of problems with it.
When i attached the Canon I could print right away via theOMNi-drivers from the HP.
But on Windows I had the USB and under eCS the parallel, so I thought why should I not give it a try. I installed the USBPRN driver and installed a new USB port under the printer properties. I installed the omni-driver for the Canon and could only find the Canon I550 listed and not the newer Canon I560.

When I had doen this I was pleasant supprised to see that I could print with USB ubder eCS.
Allso pleasant supprised about the quality of the color prints. With help of others I discovered that it allso have options for photoquality.
When you lay the Windows print and the eCS print near each other, I must admit that the Win wins because it's just a bit sharper but not much.
The eCS quality of the Canon is 10x times the HP print...

Just my 2 Euro-cents

With kind regards,

I have tried several printers over the last few days under warp and win flavors and the cannon printers have given the best output. For do detailed graphics under color and text. I have found the S9000 which is a wide format printer 13 x 19 with OS2/eCS drivers. It is a six color printer. I have the C80 and its output is poor compared to the cannon. KoolAde (Anthony)

I have the Epson USB R300M. Six cartridge photo printer.

I can't do customization as the best driver is the Epson 1200 (OMNI2) Driver. Nice thing is I can connect direct to Printer via USB cable or memory cards and print. There is no back light on buttons so it is hard to read in the dark.

Printer specs are here:

Also, the Epson R300M has a mutli memory card reader and I can use that instead of my camera (Olympus) via the CWUSB drivers. I had to have my Removables set to something higher than 9 and it works. Also, if I move the data from my xD USB Card, my camera won't recognize the card and ask for it to be reformated. So now I copy the data instead of move it.

With the demise of my LaserJet 3200 recently I was forced into the market. If you are looking for a laser multifunction, the HP 3050 was actually VERY easy to install. Make sure that you have the May 2005 usbprt.sys and sym files installed. ECS 1.2 will recognize the HP 3050 and assign a USB port. For a printer driver I used the HP 3015 driver that comes on the ECS 1.2 distribution CD. Works like a snap. Prints fast. You can even get it to print from WordPerfect for DOS, by going to spooler and redirecting LPT1 to the USB port assigned the the 3050.

My Canon S300 no longer really works right; it has problems. I bought a HP CLJ 1600 (usb). It is detected as a HP CLJ 1600 but I am unable to get a driver to work with it. I was hoping win32prn would work with it but the developer has dropped it. It is supposedly going to Netlabs (perhaps some one there will develope it). I was told about eCups. I will give it a try to see if it works. The 1600 only cost $300 but the real cost is when one replaces the toners (4 @ $75 each = ouch). I am still hoping to use it with one of my eCS computers.

According to a reply from Lexmark, the C520, C522 and C524 will work with OS/2-eCS. They are color laser printers. They are not cheap but it seems they will work with eComStation.

I use an HP Deskjet 995C under eCS 1.2. Outside of a few font disagreements with Lotus Smartsuite, it's been great.

I bought an OK C5450DN LED printer (most would say Laser printer). Oki released a new series so I got mine pretty cheap (~410 EUR = ~530 US$).

It has 128MB RAM, 100MBit Network interface (that's the "N" on the model number) and also has a duplex option to print on both sides of the paper (that's the "D" on the model number).
There are also models without the duplex printing capability available.

Result:
Outstanding color (photo quality) and text printout. The printout has a glossy effect.
It's very fast and will understand PCL6 as well as Postscript 3.
A driver can be created from the *.pdd file.

I think I don't need another printer for the next 15 year.

I have used an Epson Stylus Color 820 sucessfully with eComStation in the past. If memory serves me right, I needed to install the Epson Stylus Color 720 printer driver that ships with eComStation. After that using the Printer Object that is created(In Printer Properties Notebook), the Printer Driver Tab..select the 720 printer object..RMB click..Select Install->New Driver. The "Install New Printer Driver" window opens. Click "Other eComStation printer driver"..then in the Director field enter the location of the unpacked "epomni3e.exe" files. Click the "Refresh" button. You will then see a list of printers..select "Epson Photo 870". Continue by clicking "Install".
The printer is very slow, but at least I recall being able to print High Resolution color photos. I used to be an Epson InkJet printer fan, but after my Epson Stylus C86 sat for a week or so unused, the Inkjet ports dryup!! After that I have been unable to get the printer to work..even with new cartridges..this happened to me also with an Epson 720. So now I invest in Laser printers..my next one will be a color Laser with PostScript compatibility and Network interface. Inkjet printers are cheep..but when you add in the cost of ink..and the need to frequently replace those cartridges(time ordering or going to the store)..the expense adds up over the years. So a Laser printer with PostScript compatibility is the way to go!
