They are on the list at http://www.os2warp.be/index2.php?name=wifidevs as working with OS/2-eCS. Is the drivers on the installation cd for eCS or are they located some place else? | http://www.ecomstation.com/ecsdb/downloadsearch.phtml?search=wireless I found this link in the OS/2 section of http://forum.thinkpads.com . It is the wifi drivers for OS/2. I think my T23 Thinkpad has a wifi built in. If the above drivers do not work, I will try the drivers with the ones I bought online at eBay.

| The bad thing with os2warp.be:s wifi driver page is that, AFAIK, the "generic prism" driver so often referred to, is not public, but only for developers. They are private drivers. That means many cards is not usable for ordinary users. Am I right?

Unfortunately those drivers have been listed as "private" and "under development" with the note that they will eventually turn up on software choice / passpport advantage (and thus, become available to eCS users too) for quite some time now (the last update on that webpage is listed as 2004). At this point, since IBM has pretty much dropped support f5or OS/2, I don't expect to see that generic prism driver turning up on SWC / PPA anytime soon. Perhaps Serenity can get a license for it from os2warp.be? One thing which we can find out from this website is the name of the file for the Generic Prism driver: genprism.2.0rc4.zip I don't know if the file is the same, if it will actually work, or if it is properly licensed for further distribution, but Google seems to be able to find a location for that file. .. |

| Have you take a look at the GenMac drivers ? ftp.netlabs.org/pub/genmac/genmac100.zip Possible there is a driver that works with the 2011b. I currently have a Thinkpad T42 with a internal Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter, and works fine under OS/2 Warp 4.52. |

| Genmac and Genprism are two different drivers. Genmac is an attempt to develop a "universal" network card driver, similar to how SNAP can support most modern video card, UniAudio can support many modern sound chipsets, etc. But what makes it a little different from SNAP or UniAudio is that it is an attempt to be able to use Win32 drivers under OS/2, putting an OS/2 "wrapper" around Win32 drivers. This way hopefully in the future almost anything with a Windows driver will be able to function under Warp (at least that's the theory). While I have never tried Genmac, I have heard that the latest version works pretty well. You can find a good article on it in the Voice newsletter at: http://www.os2voice.org/VNL/past_issues/VNL0606H/feature_4.html You can download the latest public release at: ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/genmac/ While I have never tried Genmac, it has been reported to work with various wireless network cards. On the other hand, GenPrism is a driver specifically written for 802.11b wireless network cards with the Prism (Prism 1, 2, 2.5, or 3) chipset. From what I understand it is a native OS/2 driver, does not use any Win32 code / drivers to make it work. But it is limited to only working with wireless network cards with the Prism chipset (or Prism compatible I would imagine). |

| I triend the GenMac with the eCS 1.2 A22m. The program that detects hotspots indicates there is no WLAN card detected but the driver is shown(?). I think there is a Wifi card built into the A22m and I have the Intel Pro/wireless 2011b lan pc card inserted. I have tried installing the files from the cdrom that came with the pccard. It shows an OS/2 directory but I am unable to find any instructions for OS/2. What is the card listed as in the network card setup? Is the network card setup used or some other program? The plugnplay sees the card as memory.

| Here's the secret to getting GenMac and XWLan working with wireless PC cards: Go to the directory for test versions link and get cbenable_test.zip and pciconf_test.zip. After many frustrating hours, I came across mention of them on the GenMac gmane forums. They allowed my DWL-G650 card to be recognized on my Thinkpad T21. |

I used it in place of my hub but I could not connect to the internet. I put the hub back and connected the wireless to it. There were Win and Linux drivers but not for OS/2. The driver would not load onto OS/2; there was a a dos error when I tried. I am still hoping that I could use it to see if the wifi cards in the Thinkpads (with eCS) running eCS 1.1.

| Looking at the specs on that router on the dlink site, you don't really need to install any software for that router. You should be able to connect a computer to that router via a wire (a regular Ethernet cable), and set the connected computer to get an IP address via DHCP. Let the router assign an IP address to that computer then fire up any web browser and go to: user name: admin and leave the password blank. This will bring you to the setup screen for the d-link router. You'll want to change the admin password (one of the options in its setup allows you to change this) so that once you turn on the wireless options you won't leave your router open to anyone to hack into. You can also set up the wireless stuff. In a lot of routers it is shipped to a default of the wireless stuff turned off, you may need to turn it on. But you'll be able to do that from the setup menu. Once you get wireless turned on and working, you'll want to turn on the router's wireless encryption (and get it set up in OS/2 also) for added security (Without encryption, anyone within range of your router will be able to have full access to your internet connection and possibly your home network ). But my advice is don't turn on the encryption stuff until you get a basic wireless connection working. Also, if you have either Revision A or B of that router, I notice that D-Link has posted firmware updates for those 2 revisions on their support website. If that router is at Revision D, then it is shipped with the latest firmware. Hope this helps. |

Check the documentation or the dlink web site. You should be able to connect to the router with a web browser to set it up. You might have to temporarily change your TCP/IP settings to connect initially. Usually the included software is just a utility to make the setup easier, so you don't have to change your network settings around. |

I was checking the download of the cd from the Intel site. I wanted to see if the card (Intel Pro/Wireless LAN PCCard 20011b) would work with my Gateway. I do not remember any mention of OS/2 in the little booklet that came with it. I did find an OS/2 section on the cd. I wish I had checked it before leaving for WarpStock. I will give it a try and see if it works. I feel like such an idiot for not checking it before.

| I can't speak for the Intel Pro card, but on the Linksys WPC11 card to get it working under OS/2 I had to specify both the IRQ and IO_Base the card uses. I also had to set it to use interrupts instead of polling. All of this can be set in the Protocol.ini file or when you run the card setup in MPTS. |
