Hi

Just today I talked by the phone with Ray Gwinn.

He told me that he has stopped his SIO development, and his current plans are to turn open source it.

He is trying to take off some dependancies of propietary software that he has on the source code but its a lot of source code and requires hard work. If there is any developer out there that will like to help him is welcome to help. According to the amont of help we get from the community the faster we can see if released as open source.

His e-mail works ok and anybody can contact him at ray(-at-)gwinn.com.

Please post your feedback and lets try to find a community to keep going with SIO drivers under OS/2.

SIO (or SIO2K) is a Serial Input/Output communications drivers for OS/2. It's a "replacements for the OS2 communications drivers COM.SYS and VCOM.SYS. Providing enhanced performance, extended bit rate support on most motherboards, virtual modems using internet, and FOSSIL drivers."

Did he mention if he was offering the SIO2K source, or the older 1.60 base? I'd hope the SIO2K source, I still use the last registered version he released, and love it.

He didn't specify, but he told me that he is stopping the development, so I guess he will open source the last version of SIO2k.

It would be nice to see an open source version of 1.60 as well, or at least the various utilities (VMODEM and PMLM) that came with it. Does SIO2K also come with those?

Yes, the SIO2K does come with both Vmodem and PMLM. In fact, I find that the SIO2K version of Vmodem is better then the one which came with SIO1.60 (I'm a registered user of both), for the simple fact that it can create up to 256 virtual modems, plus it allows for a little better configuration of everything.
