Using Windows, copy your data on your removable to another location in case something goes wrong. That way it won't be lost.Start LVMGUI. It is found in either the System setup folder or the
Programs > Utils folder
Select the Removable drive and select
Volume > Create non-bootable volume > Create compatibility volume
and save.
Now try reading your drive.
It is my understanding that Windows does not follow the standards for creating partitions. If the above does not work, then try destroying the partition with LVMGUI. Once destroyed, create the parttition with LVMGUI. Make it a primary partition.
DO NOT RECREATE THE PARITION USING WINDOWS. REMEMBER THAT WINDOWS DOES NOT FOLLOW THE CORRECT RULES AND YOU WILL GAIN NOTHING. THIS CAN LEAD TO OTHER COMPLICATIONS.
WINDOWS CAN ALSO BE USED TO DESTROY THE PARTITION, JUST NOT TO CREATE IT. EITHER LVMGUI OR DFSEE FOR THE CREATION OF THE PARITION.
Then do the
Volume > Create non-bootable volume > Create compatibility volume
If using WindowsXP and the removable drive is
>256MB and less than 32GB, you can format the drive FAT32. Anything smaller or larger, you will need DFSee to format FAT32.
Then you need the latest FAT32 driver. The latest is a testcase version (the 0.911 driver with fix to increase the read speed of the drive) and can be found in the Yahoo FAT32USER group files section
fat32_20060608.wpi
One has to apply to the group, but this is to keep out the SPAM. The advantage of using FAT32 - It is a great cross platform filesystem and supports long names.
