If one wanted to create their own basic USB driver for OS/2 (as oppose to relying on others [like IBM] to create it), where would one get the source code? If none available, would the a person have to create or write their own?

I found a site that has an open source USB drivers for Linux. Since I have heard of other Linux programs have been ported to OS/2 using its source code (the programs), could this be done with the Linux USB drivers?

I believe they can also be found at http://service.boulder.ibm.com/ddk/ where one can download them (it reuires membership but it is free [IIRC since I signed up and was not charged] to join). I believe it is under the i/o section.

Hmm this could be of interest, but since there are drivers out from IBM it might not happend. Then again, since You have to have the Software Choice to get your hands on them it might for some sound like an idea. Problem is that the Software Choice software is already out on the net to be downloaded.....

It could also be good for some one who wished to develop USB drivers (basic and/or device) independent of IBM that they could give out without a charge to the one using it (ie; subscription to Software Choice). When new(er) devices come out that are USB, the developer could try to create/write a driver for it without having to wait for IBM to create one (if they do at all).

True in one way; since I guess that the support for USB currently as I understand it is rather good with the latest upgrades. So question is how much efforts there would be put into this currently. But, then again in the near future this might be a problem since more and more devices tends to use the USB interface. As well now also the news harddisk standard using USB v2.0. When speaking about standards I would rather see that Firewire gained marked share here; but that would be asking for too much! And how many within the OS2 community can actually help out with coding? My coding skills goes to simple java, php and perl scripts... eeh. Not much of help I guess. But, it seems that there is much more going on from week to week. New projects and effors are being announced and that is great. How would one gain more OS2 users then? Well, why couldn't IBM just dump the price to cost recovery of OS2 and let people download the CD images via the web. This would at lest let more people try this excellent OS.

The source code for input/output which includes USB code has been updated within the last month or two. There has been some discussion of/by some who are working on it at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/os2ddprog .
