two issues:
1 on thinkpad 770z and another on thinkpad t41
both with ecs 1.2

more than 5 attempts at installing ecs 1.2 have been made
on a thinkpad 770z to get pcmcia working,
during install I have selected 770z under notebook setup
and also select all pcmcia drivers support (flash, harddisk, modem)
After install, nothing on pcmcia works, even though
plug and play pc director shows that it sees both a
hard disk and a 3com etherlink III network card.
(thus I can not network!)

I have also tried selecting on subsequent installs
to skip pcmcia support altogether and put older
back level (1999) pcmcia from ibm diskette based installed
770z notebook drivers ... with the same result.
Does anyone have this working with ecs 1.2?

now onto the thinkpad T41 .... pcmcia harddisk
stuff sorta works but during file transfers from pcmcia harddisk
to internal hard drive the IRQ meter in ecsCenter is
pegged to 99% and the system is unusable until
the transfer is complete .... on large transfers from
compact flash cards (via a pcmcia card adapter) it
can take over 10 minutes (using 1 gig compact ultra II
memory cards) , testing this on a ecs 1.0 thinkpad
system does not have this IRQ problem, that system is
totally usable during the transfer.

I have heard of troubles with T41 and PCMCIA (someone on the Wireless list couldn't get a Jacaranda card recognised with the proper drivers). Maybe it isn't as compatible as IBM claim?

Stuart,

overall
its a very nice notebook,
I even have hibernation working,
svista running 1 guest nt4 sp6 works good,

cons for the moment:
>winmodem .... had to use pcmcia 3xcm556 with injoy
>wireless 802.11g minipci no drivers ... when I get a chance I want to replace with 802.11b that's there's drivers for,
has anyone done this with t41 2379dju model?
>simultaneous display with lcd and ext monitor does not work
FROM BIOS as it did with earlier bios releases .... haven't gotten back to ibm to tell them which bios used to work ....
>must eject most pcmcia cards to hibernate, svista currently
must be shutdown as well ...

if anyone has solutions to the above cons let me know

It currently looks like that the only mPCI card that works is the IBM High Rate Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Adapter (PN: 22P7701) that gives you 11MB. I'm myself using a Dell Inspiron 8600 that came with Intel mPCI, but no drivers there. I then also gave it a try with a Cisco mPCI, but as well no drivers there either. So after a while I finally got my hands on a IBM OEM card via eBay for $35 so I now have everything working on this laptop that I wanted.
