| The other eCS Install thread was getting confusing with a lot of quotes/repeats, so I started this new one. I am trying to install eCS 1.2R on my notebook for the first time. Currently, my OS is OS/2 Warp 4 with fp14--I think. I don't think I have Warp 4.5. I know I do not have LVM. I also am trying to do the Advanced Install. Currently, when I try to install eCS over Warp 4, I get thru the installation to the 'Select Installation Volume' screen. On that screen, there are no volumes to select. When I click the 'New Volume' button at the bottom of the screen I get an error message: Can I install over Warp 4? I am NOT a "techie", so please answer in non-technical terms as much as possible. Thank you in advance for your help. Dennis PS--Is there a way to run 32-bit windoze apps under eCS? |

Hi Dennis
Be warned that "migrate" installs may not be as successful as you would like so make sure that you have a backup of your current system before starting the install. If your applications are not on the boot drive then I would be tempted to backup the Warp4 Desktop so that you can restore non-system bits such as Desktop application program objects after performing a clean install of eCS. I would use Object Packager from Object Desktop V2 to do that job - of course that means installing OD to the new eCS installation in order to be able to unpack the required bits from the Desktop backup but it works, mainly. No, you do not need to install 4.50 before eCS - but if you did all that would require is fp15 or 16 - last of the "freebies" - if I remember correctly. Yes, you need to use LVM with eCS1.2R so your existing fdisk'd disk(s) need updating - the eCS Create a new Volume should handle that but thinking about the partition table error message I think you need to rectify that 1st. If you download the demo of DFSee mentioned previously that will be able to confirm there are disk problems - or not. I have used DFSee once to recover from a corrupt partition table problem - there are 2 copies of this table and 1 disagreed with the other - and it was a bit tricky. You will need to know the exact size of all the partitions that you have and use DFSee to reset the partition table to those sizes. A good read of the docs which has some example recoveries may be a good idea. If you think that is beyond you then I suggest that you use DFSee to check there is a problem and then Register the package and ask the author for help - he is known for being helpful Regards Pete
Acrobat5 uses the Innotek Runtime (supplied with ecS) and can be found here http://download.innotek.de/acrobatos2/5.1Preview1/OS2KitAcrobatReader51Preview1.exe I think the most recent Odin builds are here ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/odin/Daily |

It can be difficult to speak "non-techie" due to the technical nature of the questions Of possible interest and looks very related is a thread in the os2 newsgroups:- comp.os.os2.setup.storage/Problem after converting FDisk Partitions to LVM It looks very much like your problem so you may want to have a read. There is also an FAQ on ecomstation that should help http://www.ecomstation.com/edp/mod.php?mod=faq&op=show_answer&faq_id=524 Hope you get it sorted Pete |
