| Looking at the specs on that router on the dlink site, you don't really need to install any software for that router. You should be able to connect a computer to that router via a wire (a regular Ethernet cable), and set the connected computer to get an IP address via DHCP. Let the router assign an IP address to that computer then fire up any web browser and go to: http://192.168.0.1 user name: admin and leave the password blank. This will bring you to the setup screen for the d-link router. You'll want to change the admin password (one of the options in its setup allows you to change this) so that once you turn on the wireless options you won't leave your router open to anyone to hack into. You can also set up the wireless stuff. In a lot of routers it is shipped to a default of the wireless stuff turned off, you may need to turn it on. But you'll be able to do that from the setup menu. Once you get wireless turned on and working, you'll want to turn on the router's wireless encryption (and get it set up in OS/2 also) for added security (Without encryption, anyone within range of your router will be able to have full access to your internet connection and possibly your home network ). But my advice is don't turn on the encryption stuff until you get a basic wireless connection working. Also, if you have either Revision A or B of that router, I notice that D-Link has posted firmware updates for those 2 revisions on their support website. If that router is at Revision D, then it is shipped with the latest firmware. Hope this helps. |

BigWarpGuy (29 Sep, 2006 01:19): I forgot to add that it is a D-Link WRR1310 wireles router. One has to load the cdrom software/drivers to use the router.Since I could not load the driver onto the eCS pc, I could not use the router.
Check the documentation or the dlink web site. You should be able to connect to the router with a web browser to set it up. You might have to temporarily change your TCP/IP settings to connect initially. Usually the included software is just a utility to make the setup easier, so you don't have to change your network settings around. |

| Thanks for the information. I will give it a try. I had a typo; it is the WBR1310.

I had used my Win Gateway 200S notebook computer to set up the wifi router. I had the old hub on it but it did not work today. I just used the new wifi router and it works with my eCS pc; at least I can surf the internet. I will try to see if the wifi pccards in my eCS thinkpads will detect the wifi router.

I was checking the download of the cd from the Intel site. I wanted to see if the card (Intel Pro/Wireless LAN PCCard 20011b) would work with my Gateway. I do not remember any mention of OS/2 in the little booklet that came with it. I did find an OS/2 section on the cd. I wish I had checked it before leaving for WarpStock. I will give it a try and see if it works. I feel like such an idiot for not checking it before.

I tried the OS/2 drivers from the CDROM and from the CDROM file I downloaded from Intel. They seem to be fro the Intel Pro PCI device and do not mention wifi or pccards. I will keep trying till I am able to replace it with something else.

I tried it on my Win Gateway 200S notebook computer. It worked better than the one that is built into the pc (at least it detected wif networks the other one didn't). I will give it another try on my Thinkpad T23 with eCS 1.1 (might upgrade to 1.2 to see if it makes a difference).

I have ordered two upgrades from BMTMicro http://www.bmtmicro.com (via the link at the eCS site; where to buy section http://www.ecomstation.com ) . I am hoping eCS 1.2 will work better with the card(fingers crossed).

| I can't speak for the Intel Pro card, but on the Linksys WPC11 card to get it working under OS/2 I had to specify both the IRQ and IO_Base the card uses. I also had to set it to use interrupts instead of polling. All of this can be set in the Protocol.ini file or when you run the card setup in MPTS. |

I was able to get into the D-Link wireless router using http://192.168.0.1. I changed the network name. I try to set the wiressless password but it would not do anyting after I had entered in a password (it was step three). I will check into the upgrade. Thanks for the information.

32. Passphrase? |

What is a 'passphrase'? To setup WPA-Personal, it needs a passphrase. I risk sounding dumb but it is a risk I am willing to take.
