1. Using RBL's to filter out spam in PMMail, Is there demand for this functionality?

(same message as on the PMMail2000 forums)

If you have a mail server, you can use real-time blacklists to check whether connecting servers are well-known spam-senders. POP-clients, however, are one step too late.

I've written a REXX tool that checks the headers of incoming mail, to see whether your mail server received the mail from a well-known spam-sender. It then adds some headers to the mail, indicating the results of the check. In PMMail, you then can build a filter to check those headers and to filter out the (probably) spam messages.

As it is now, it's not very easy to change the behaviour for particular situations, or to specify which RBL('s) it should use.

If there is enough demand, I'll make it user-friendy and make it available to others.

So... does this seem like something you'd like to use? Are there any OS/2 users left using PMMail? If so, please respond here!

(It's possible that this tool also works for other mail programs than PMMail. However, I haven't tested it.)

Well, I would be interested such feature. I'm currently using pmMail together with SpamCop to handle spam problem. But, would I be able to get this feature included within pmMail it would be great.

Regarding users using pmMail; my biggest reason to move away from pmMail would be lack of support for encrypting mail. PGP is totally dead under Os2. So what is available is gnupg; but so far now direct support under pmmail.

Regarding the rexx script is this something that you currently have available that one could try out?

It has some fixed values for my specific situation, so it won't work elsewhere yet. That's why I asked whether there's demand for it: I'll have to rewrite some parts, so it can be made configurable.

I'm already rewriting, but user's demand would speed me up

With the increase of 'spam', I could see a use for it (I receive between 75 to 100 'spam' a day with my home e-mail address).

Even with the US Congress trying to outlaw 'spam', I doubt they will eliminated it all. There is definintely a need for it.

It's almost ready for publication now.

It now logs every action. I've added an .ini file with all configurable items in it. Adding other RBL's is also part of the ini file.

I want to add the possibility to not log. After that, I think the script is ready to be published. Then I only have to gather some info about RBL's one could use and create some documentation. It'll be here soon!

However, not much action there so far...
