Hi,
BigWarpGuy (30 Oct, 2004 14:59):
Scandisk does not have drivers for it for WinXP (which is what is on my notebook computer).
...AFAIK WinXP supports any type of USB card reader right out of the box: With XP running (and the reader attached), simply insert a card into the reader. XP should assign it a (new) drive icon in "My computer".
For eCS, I found that it's necessary to...
a) have either eCS 1.2 or the latest os kernel and os loader updates
b) use the latest IBM USB MSD drivers or Chris MSD drivers
c) if you have USB 2.0 compliant ports, make sure they do NOT run WITHOUT interrupts (which is possible with some BIOSes)
d) if you have any other kind of USB MSD device (e.g. x-in-1 card reader) attached, make sure you assign the driver enough "reserved drive letters" (to put it that way).
In my case here, I first was unable to use my 6-in-1 card reader at all.
Then, I tried to run the USB onboard ports with "use IRQ for USB = YES" set in the machines BIOS. That made eCS discover the USB 2.0 finally - before, it simply found the UHCI ports (= USB 1.x) only.
Then with the latest kernel and loader updates, I was able to use it but only the CF-carf slot.
I then found out (with the help of that other so-called OS from Redmond) that the CF slot was the "first" drive letter "F:" and the other slots (like SD, MS, SM) were assigned the following drive letters G, H, I and so on.
I then "told" the USB MSD drivers from eCS to "be prepared to support" up to SIX removable devices by using the following parms in config.sys:
BASEDEV=USBMSD.ADD /FLOPPIES:0 /REMOVABLES:6 /FIXED_DISKS:0 /FORCE_TO_REMOVABLE
...and that solved my problems! Now I'm able to plug whatever card type into the corresponding slots of the 6-in-1 reader and use them without trouble... sometimes given an initial "refresh removable drives" from the wps drive folder - but at least: It works.
Keepings fingers crossed. Good luck.
