1. PCMCIA Hard Drive and OS/2?

Will a pcmcia hard drive work with OS/2? I have seen adds for an external drive case that can hold a 2.5" hard drive and thought it would be nice to use it with an older notebook drive as backup or storage of photos, files, etc.

Thanks for the information. IIRC - I saw enclosures for 2.5 inch drive (via pcmcia ) at online stores. Now I will be able to get one and know it will work.

... for PCMCIA HDD !!!

My answer relays to the native PCMCIA HDD solution only !!

With a 2 1/2" HDD jowever connected via PCMCIA you are on your own playground again ,
like with your earlier SCSI-HDD via PCMCIA experiments !?

My earlier pcmcia-scsi card worked with the Panasonic DXL-D740 external cd-rom drive. It worked with the Adaptec (the pcmcia card) and the drivers found at http://www7.software.ibm.com/2bcprod.nsf/WebCat?OpenView (which I downloaded and installed - IIRC). I turn on the external cd-rom drive just before booting the notebook computer. It shows the cd-rom as d: which works quite well. The only real problem is that the drive is a real drain on double A batteries. I have yet to find an ac/dc adapter for it (which would save me alot of money on batteries if it one is found but I am looking for a adapter that would work with it [it has a 13v dc plug on the side] but that is another story/problem ).

RESERVEDRIVELETTER=O
i.e. placed into your CONFIG.SYS sets your CD-ROM permanently on letter: P !!!

If you place this RESERVEDRIVELETTER entry into your Installation Disk 1's CONFIG.SYS all your systems CD-ROM letter will be set similar !!

All my systems CD-ROM drives are set to "S" !

Very convenient to remember and
NO troubles with shifting letters while adding new drives !

I am able to use the IBM Microdrive--mounted in its PCMCIA adapter--with no problem at all.
I got a 1GB Microdrive to go with my digital camera and decided to give it a try in my Thinkpad w/ Warp 4 FP 6 with the PCMCIA ATA support enabled. I was prepared for a lot of hassle in getting the thing to work, but it worked right away.

The drive appears as a 1GB FAT file system, as if it were a 1GB floppy disk: there is no partition table. If I really wanted to try something wierd, I suppose I could try formatting it as HPFS, but then my camera wouldn't be able to understand it.

I have been trying to bring up a Thinkpad T20 with eCS 1.1, but have not yet had success in making the network connection work. In the meantime, the Microdrive has been very handy for transferring files between the two laptops!
