This is the url for the universal audio card for OS/2. It indicates (IIRC) that it is for isa. It is presented without warranty and asis. One could use it to create one owns version of it or use it in a clone of OS/2.

It seems that the source code is not complete; what the story behind this? I saw the post within osFree... Also the driver is based on GNU licensed code. But how does that work out with IBM actually taking money to download it (if it true that the source is not complete)? I haven't really read the GNU licens, what does it say there?

I have downloaded the zipped source code and will check it out. I will check the web site again for/about what you are referring to. I too thought it odd that they would release the source code when the compiled version is part of Software Choice (then again, so is the usb drivers and their source code is also part of the ddk at IBM).

I have downloaded the universal audio driver that was compiled and uploaded to Hobbes (http://hobbes.nmsu.edu ). Has anyone tried it yet? I will be trying it soon.

I've download but haven't come around to try it yet. I've got a Crystal based audio chip integrated on my motherboard. Currently using the C-Media drivers for that. So feels like no hurry. But, will try it soon.

I have an Aopen AW320 Crystal based PCI audio card. I have downloaded it but have not used it yet. I also want to try it on my Thinkpad 755c which is has a Crystal audio chipset (IIRC).

Is there any updates to the universal audio driver? Is anyone still working on it?

I would assume so - but I don't know that for a fact. There were some messages back a while ago on the ecomstation list from people waiting for the full release of the source code. Then the discussions went away.

The driver that got distributed with eCS 1.1 carries a time stamp of:: 2002-10-31.

It doesn't work on my DeskNote machine (SIS 7012 sound). The driver loaded, and no error message. Just no sound.

Works with the CMedia cards I tested.

A new update was posted to Hobbs recently. I was told that this update:

- It will *ATTEMPT* to use any AC'97 codec found in the system
- It supports more AC'97 hosts, including nVidia, SiS, AMD and VIA
- It will not create 20+ driver nodes in resource manager (RMVIEW /d)

The readme points to the location where you can download the source code. I have not tried to compile the code to verify whether it's complete.

Is it known who compiled this? I was able to compile it but never get it to work with my ESS Maestro card. David Forrester also built it but didn't have any luck getting it to work last I talked to him. The best we could figure was that there would have to be changes to the 16 bit piece which is not open sourced so I would like to know what changes were made and how to get it to work wtth Nvidia, AMD, SIS, VIA chipsets to see if I can get it to work with my card.

Andy,

I'm not much further along. It loads, but, it doesn't produce sound. At the moment, I'm looking at the mixer. As LBMix only finds the master volume, this isn't being setup correctly. I have to break out the debugger some time soon.

I to would like to know who has put the version on hobbes. And, I'd love to see the changes they have made. They don't seem to have done anything with the 16bit driver (dates and size haven't change), so it appears to be in the 32bit code that's been released that changes have been made. From the reports I've seen, I suspect that the changes made would help me as well (once compiled with other changes for my chipset).
