I still am not quite sure what exactly eComStation is. Is it actually OS/2 version 4 or what ? And what comes along with it since it's actually rather pricey ....

Here is a few lines taken from http://www.ecomstation.nl/uk/ecs_what.html

What is eComStation?

eComStation is based on the kernel of OS/2 Warp Server for eBusiness, which has been greatly enhanced from OS/2 Warp 4.
In fact, it will be based on the version that IBM will release as Convenience Pak, in november.
Besides this enhanced kernel, eComStation will have a lot of extra features:

* Lotus SmartSuite 1.6
This is a full fledged office solution for eComStation, fully supported by Lotus and providing you with state of the art applications. Compatible with other popular office suites
* IBM Desktop On Call (enables you to take over your desktop from any Java enabled webbrowser, within your LAN or at the other side of the world
* Serenity Systems WiseClient (the WiseClient from Serenity Systems enables your workstation to be a Managed Client from a WiseManager. This offers lot's of advantages which are discussed here in detail
* Additional applications IBM took out of the Convenience Pak, like VoiceType, BonusPak etc.
* Enhancements to the installation, desktop and overall stability and performance
* Optionally SMP, which until now are only available in the Advanced Server editions of OS/2

Two versions of eComStation are available:

* eComStation (standard)
* eComStation Pro SMP - this version is able to run on multi-processor systems (up to 64 processors!) and offers very high performance

All versions of eComStation will be shipped with JFS support.

Besides these versions there is a eComStation Workbench in preparation, a version meant especially for developers. This will be based on eComStation Pro with additionaly (amongst others) Universal Database V7 Developer's Edition and VisualAge for Java Professional.

What will you buy?

eComStation will be delivered on 3 CD's.

* an installation CD. This will be a bootable CD so you can easiliy install eComStation and will not need to create or use bootdiskettes!
* the product CD. This will contain all programs needed to install eComStation, including Desktop On Call and WiseClient
* an add-on CD. With all kinds of freeware and demo applications to enable you to start using your new eComStation!

Languages:

The Preview Release of eComStation will be offered in US-English.
The final release will be available in more languages. Currently we're planning on German, Spanish, Italian, French and Dutch.
Upgrades:

You can purchase an upgrade from OS/2 Warp 4 to eComStation, when:

* You have a valid license of OS/2 Warp 4
* You will order before july 31, 2001. After this date the upgrades will still be available, but price will increase considerably!

When I bought ver 4, I bought the full version so I could not only upgrade ver 3 but install just ver 4 when I had to replace the hard drive (instead of buying the upgrade and having to re-install ver 3 then the upgrade). It worked (something you can not do with Windoze). Is this possible with eComStation? Do I have to buy the upgrade or can I buy the full version and be able to upgrade ver 4 with it?
OS/2 Warp-ed to the very end.

I just thought I ask. I should have asked at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ecomstation or at the forum at http://www.ecomstation.com .

I agree the post/question made was not exactly appropiate here.

I've been using the demo (which is the full version with some time expiring key). It sais it is "Operating System2/ version 4.5", which means it is the succesor of WarpServer for eBussines (1999, v4.5) and this WSeB is the succesor of OS/2 Warp 4 (1997/8, v4.0).
