1. Warp ver 4 installation via an external cd-rom? |
|
|
| I have an IBM Thinkpad 750Cs notebook computer. It does not have a cd-rom drive. I am using an external drive case with an eide cd-rom drive. This device has worked when OS/2 was already on the computer. I am trying to use it to install OS/2 Warp ver 4. I have modified it (according to the AOKIDE instructions that came with the drive case - instructions for OS/2). I have deleted aic7770.add and copied cdblazer.add to the diskette one. I edited the config.sys on diskette 1 so it sees the cdblazer.add file. When I go to install Warp, it does not see the cd-rom drive. I am using updated installation diskettes made from the WarpUp cd-rom. What can I do to install Warp ver 4 using the external cd-rom drive? |

| What brand of external CD-Rom are You using? Since You manage to get it to run when You had OS2 installed I then guess that You had to install some drivers. Same drivers should then be used to update the installations diskettes. What is current status? /Kim |

I used an IBM CD-RW drive. It would see it and not see it. It would 'freeze' up after detecting and then install the AOKIDE drivers. When it did manage to get to the desktop, it would freeze up when one clicked on the cd drive icon. I will change the drivers from IBM to those of Dani and JJSC to see what will work.
OS/2 Warp-ed to the very end.

I have found a place that has a Mitsumi cd-rom drive for $35 (http://www.harddrive.com dci mts m54x). Since I have had such 'good luck' with Mitsumi cd-rom drives and OS/2, I will give it a try. I will report the results after I tried it.

| Hmm the Mitsumi should work fine. But, when it comes to the other IBM CD-Rom drive you had it should also work. Have you tried to add /v to the driver for the IBM cd-rom? Just in case so you see whats happening. Don't forget to use set copyfromfloppy=1 else the driver will not be installed onto the system and only used during the installation. /Kim |

| I will give it a try after I replace the screen on the notebook computer (I have one on its way to me - the current one is malfunctioning [could be the light behind the lcd panel]). BigWarpGuy
