Okidoki. my (current) Desktop. (if it works.. ) My trashcan is realy funny. its a coffin and when there's something in it a skeleton sits inside... (people who know Magic the Gathering probably regoqnize my icons.. ) As you can see I'm using both warp/e - center and Xcenter on top of eachother where the Xcenter is hidden and poppups at the bottom of the screen.. when youre used to it its not bad at all. I cannot make a decision among those 2.. .. Chris

Hi ChrisR! Thanx for your help, I don't know how I overlooked that check box (attach a file). Probably because the first part of the text tip offers to preview the message, so I didn't expect to find another function associated with that checkbox. Regarding your gadgets: first of all let me say that I am NOT Chris Wohlgemuth (sp?). My name is Cristiano Guadagnino, and I am happy to see that you're using my RexxScroller widget To do what you want to do, you may try another way that I have used in a few rexx widgets: start another .cmd from your gadget, and put the output of _that_ cmd into a rexx queue (see the rexx online manual). Then, from the gadget, read the queue. The reason is that gadgets (like XCenter widgets) are run by the WPS, directly in the WPS context, so they can't have console output. But if you spawn a new script, you can choose to run it in another process. I am attaching here my desktop screenshot, which includes the new calendar gadget. I contected Chris W. to include it in the next release of WPSWizard. Bye! Cris

Cris, Oh yeah.. now I see.. that is ChrisW (here)... I got on a wrong foot because you talked about a new calendar gadjet:-) There are just to many Chris/Cris in the OS2/eCS world.. (Chris/Cris ect. are smart people:-) ) So I can call another *.cmd file from within a gadjet.... yeah. that would solve the whole thing.. i like this scroler scripts.. (thats why I use it:-) ) Chris..

Hi Chris, I was thinking about getting into doing some REXX programming and I was wondering if you wouldn't mind saying how you rendered the image as the background. I wanted to work on the calendar and system info gadgets to "cut my teeth" so to speak and am curious how you rendered that. I asume its a bitmap and that you didn't draw the entire background. Did you use some kind of specail REXX dll for it? Ah good ol' Stardock, they don't do os/2 development anymore but I guess they can still do some good in the os/2 community. kind regards,

Hi arr, if you upgrade to WPSWizard 0.5.1, you'll see that there is a new gadget type, called an "image gadget". It supports all the image types supported by MMOS/2, so you can choose among (at least) BMP, GIF and JPEG. If you install more codecs you have an even wider choice. The image gadget is a so-called "container", that is it can group other gadgets onto itself. In my calendar gadget there is an image gadget and six other html gadgets, all grouped together. Since I'm still not hearing anything from ChrisW, I'm thinking about posting the whole thing to hobbes. Hope this helps... Cris

Ok, maybe it's a case of being braindead or something. I am unable to locate the image gadget and like I mentioned I am using 0.51. What's the name of the file and where is it supposed to be located in? I looked in the places where I installed wps wizard and didn't see anything that looked like the image gadget. I found all the other gadgets but not this one. kind regards,

Search and look in the help / inf file.. You have to create your own image gadjet. There is not an example (yet). I did not used it yet, Cris can tell you more about it.. he knows a lot about rexx...

Cris, I think that maybe its the proper way to post your own gadgets on hobbes.. From ChrisW point of view I can understand he doesn't want to include gadgets from other people, besides the WPS-wizzard he creates a lot of other things, the CDR-classes and the MM-classes ect.. I can imagine he gets a lot of mails.. and people are people.. Unfortunately (its somewhere in these forums) 1 person, or maybe 2? had some problems with his Mmclasses and did blame him and scold to him even.. this is not easy.. specially he did not apologize.. that's why the Mmclasses did stop.. But its all human.. I did make this mistake myself once, when something won't work one gets irritated.. I did have problems with the scitech once, my monitor did not work properly, it did irritate me and I blamed scitech.. its easy of course.. and its stupid... So a few days later I did apologe to scitech.. shit happens. Every hardware is different.. and instead of to admit you made a mistake by buying wrong hardware its a lot easier to blame someone else.. This hurts people.. specially if its one person who makes this software.. As you mention yourself the image container depends a lot on the codecs one has installed, ChrisW did not include a image gadjed himself, but I'm sure he tested it.. So don't be disappointed when he did not yet answered your mail. Chris

I did a little more investigating into the image_gadget type - very interesting. I will have to create some images to work with and see how much effort it will take to "graft" the calendar into it. Should be educational and fun. I think I agree with ChrisR, might be better to just go ahead and post it on hobbes. kind regards,

Hi all, yes I see. I already thought about this... I know Chris was very angry because of all these poeple bashing him. Personally, I think he makes great software and I'm gratefull, although sometimes I disagree on his choices... but that's another story: we can't always agree on everything! I'm going to post to hobbes as soon as I have another little WPSWizard-related project completed. I think it will be right after Easter. Mainly I wrote to ChrisW because I thought it unfair to publish something WPSWizard-related without telling him, and because I'm having a few problems with transparent GIF images and I hoped he could do something for it (like enhancing the GIF codec or writing a PNG codec). Thankyou!! Cris
