1. Suggestion for USB-scanner

Since there are new version (since a while back) of SANE and TAME with proper USB-support I now wonder if anyone can make a suggestion of USB-scanner to buy. Price range would be betwen $150 - $350.

And yes, I know that there is a list of scanner that should work, but would like to hear from someone that he or she has actually managed to get the scanner to workj....

I have an Epson 1660 USB scanner working very nicely with Tame.096.
Once USB base drivers are set up and working (which can be a
bit tricky, but os2world.com/usb was helpful for me), setting
Tame up was quite straightforward.

I'm actually looking into buy the 1660 since the 1640 was on the list. Ok, sounds like safe buy then.

Yup, I find it works more simply and rapidly than under
Windows now. Both are reliable. With Tame.096, I set it up as a perfection 1640 and couldn't get the max. resolution the scanner specifies (apparently - not something I would use).
Once I reported success to the Tame guys, they asked for a copy of a response to a particular Sane command and sent
me a new file to replace one out of the distribution.
Pretty good service for a free package I would say...

Well, it turned out that I've picked an Epson Perfection 2400 scanner; it was on the list but not tested. So in the good faith of testing it I bought it. I'll report back if it works and as too the developers.

Talk about a bad day today. It turned out that the native USB Basic drivers included within MCP2 doesn't support the SiS based drivers used on my Asus P4S533 board. So either just have to hope that the latest on SW supports it or that there are any other 3rd party drivers to use..

Yes, I'm wondering about the latest USB drivers available at Software Choice if they have support for the SiS chip when it comes to USB support.

Good news today! Since I downloaded the latest (January 20, 2003) USB Basic drivers and rebooted my system. Voila! No error this time on USB Manager drivers. So when I got the system up again I first of all checked with USB Manager and it listed the Epson Perfection 2400 Photo scanner within the list of USB units connected to my system. Next was to give it a try with Tame/2 and making a preview scan and a final scan works fine. So I will give some more testings to see if all features works out. As well, I also noticed that Yame/2 had the features for using the negativ film scann as well; that would be very nice if that works out as well.

So guess that the 2400 can be added on the list as tested and working scanner, so far.

Also something that I guess that we can take notice of is that the USB Basic drivers then have much better support for the SiS chipset now.
