When I have the external drive plugged in and turned on and before the trap error comes up (stopping the boot process), there is an error for the sound card driver. Could this happen because of hardware/irq conflict? (both using the same irq number?). When I have the external unplugged and turned off, there isn't a problem with the sound/audio driver.

Could be, try to check your Bios or system config and disable for example the IR-function since this one steals an IRQ that you might need. But, then again how is the CD-ROM connection, via PCMCIA card? Then the PCMCIA-bus itself already assigned an IRQ. Wierd. Else out of suggestions.

If I plug in the cddrive/external drive - which is connected via pcmcia - after the notebook computer has been booted, it sees the cd drive but as a hard drive which is ready but not drive icon in the drive folder. I have added the os2cdrom.dmd and cdfs.ifs to the config.sys file and will be trying it again. I will return with the results.

I keep getting traps errors even though I use two differently cd drives (a Mitsumi and an IBM). It could be the pcmcia card software is assigning an irq that is already being used therefore cause the trap error that keeps it from booting. Once the pcmcia is removed, there isn't a trap error. I will either look for a way to prevent the trap error or find another pcmcia drive case or drive.

Basicly it is alot of numbers and symbols (too long to write down or remember). Once I stopped using that driver, I was able to plug in the pcmcia card without a trap error. Before removing the driver, I had used a different card (not similar or related but a pcmcia card) and it caused a trap error. I have a scsi pcmcia card and a scsi cd drive. I will be trying that next. The scsi pcmcia card is an Adaptic 1460 and comes with OS/2 drivers.
