1. Thinkpad T21 and audio? |
|
|
Will the uniaud drivers work with a Thinkpad T21? Should I use the drivers for OS/2 for the T21?

I was told that the UniAud should work with the T21. The person who said it has a T21 and used the UniAud drivers succesfully.

Hi BigWarpGuy, BigWarpGuy (01 Oct, 2005 16:51): I was told that the UniAud should work with the T21. The person who said it has a T21 and used the UniAud drivers succesfully.
...the person is me. And it's a T22, not a T21 I'm having... but it should be using the same chipset, so I took a look after the drivers I'm using, and it's the following files (from the config.sys): uniaud16.sys 61554 bytes v1.1.2 uniaud32.sys 479694 bytes v1.1.0 I can't tell anymore from which package they came from - sorry. Hope this helps anyway. BUT: Is there any error message like "no chipset found" or similar or does it simply do nothing? You can always run the PCI+AGP Bus sniffer (available on hobbes) to check WHAT sound chipset is in that ThinkPad. Greetings Thomas |

| I have used Uniaud on my T20, and it is fine. However, there is no sound in DOS or Win-OS2 - but there is reliable sound in VirtualPC. So you have to weigh up your needs. If VPC is more important to you, go with Uniaud, if the "native" emulators are of greater use (ie DOS games or Windows multimedia applications) use the native. VPC will work with the Crystal drivers, but the sound is terrible (very jerky), also there are some hoops to jump through in order to install it. I hope you get eCS to install - eCS +Thinkpad is a formidable combination! Stuart |

I rarelly if ever use dos or win-os2 so having no sound there is okay. I have installed it but have yet to turn it back on (I have been getting ready for WarpStock Hershey - I am helping with the OS2-eCS.org booth).

| The UniAud failed to intiailize. There is no sound. What I thought was a T21 is a T23. The site showed a T21. It seems I was upgraded to a T23. I might have to do a selective install to intall the drivers for a T23 instead of the T21. I am using the Thinkpad to post this.

After installing the T23 drivers, I turned on the Thinkpad. Uniaud intialized. There was sound. It worked.

last updated at 06 Oct, 2005 00:48 (1 times) I also installed flash for OS/2. I have not tried it with any sites that have sound. I hope the UniAud works with it.
