1. PCMCIA USB card and OS/2?

Can OS/2 use a PCMCIA card that gives an USB connector to a computer with a PC Card slot? I have seen PCMCIA cards that are a USB connection. Does OS/2 need special drivers for it to work with Warp?

I saw an USB ver 1.1 pcmcia card at http://www.tigerdirect.com for $24 (actually it was in the catalog but I assumed it would be on their web site). Since it is ver 1.1, will it work with the UHCI USB OS/2 drivers?

I finally found a VIA chipset USB PCI card. It works with the USB drivers for OS/2. I have tried it and the USB drivers (UHCI and OHCI) sees/detects it. Now to see if the USB Epson printer works.

It detects the USB printer but I still can not print anything. I have to find a print driver that will work with an Epson Stylus Color 480 SXU.

PS I am looking for an affordable USB PCMCIA card. I have not found one yet.

I have been told that it could be defaulting to LPT1. I will check it out and return with the result (a step closer to the solution).

Have you tried to check with Martin Iturbide who runs the USB Site for OS2? Well, I'll try to forward this thread to him and see what he says!

well, about the PCMCIA, I haven't get any report that works under OS/2.

I had also never tried one to be sure if it works or not. Possible it will not work, but we shoul not lose the faith until someone test it.

I have been bidding on pcmcia usb cards at eBay.com. As soon as I win a bid on one, I will try it with OS/2 (I have it on my notebook computer).

I have received the PCMCIA (PC-Card) USB card. I will be downloading and installing the OS/2 drivers for USB. I will be trying them soon and will return with the results (good, bad or indiferent).

PS It is a 2.0 USB card that is OHCI and EHCI compatible (I have heard of OHCI but not EHCI).

I installed the pcmcia usb card. I used the pcmcia detect software that came with Warp ver 3. It did not detect it. It showed it as an empty slot. I tried taking it out and putting it back in but the result was the same. I will try updating the pcmcia drivers and try installing the usb drivers for OS/2.

PS I will download the new(er) input/output driver source code from IBM's DDK site (still free to join and download [IIRC ] - the io driver source code was updated within this year).

I am still working on it. When and if it works, I will come back with the results (good or bad).

I have read of (not too distant past - like a month or two ago) of a similar discussion at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/os2ddprog (there some people having problems with it).

It most like won't work.
1st keep in mind that all USB PCCARDs are Cardbus cards so you can't use them on old PCMCIA only notebooks.
2nd those cards don't have any PCCARD tuples so the PCMCIA driver only gets the info there is an card but not what card it is.
3rd the USB base drivers are not PCMCIA aware.
What you could try is a use a general Cardbus Point enabler that maps the cardbus card so early into the PCI space that the PCI search routines in the USB drivers find it.

Since the notebook computer I have has an ISA architecture and not a PCI one, I will save the USB PCMCIA card for a future notebook computer. Thanks for the information. I will look into it.
