1. Laser printer success |
|
|
| Today, I was at a local thrift store when I found a Brother HL-1440 laser printer in good condition. I checked it out-it has both parallel and USB connections and seemed to be in good condition. I saw the price was $4 and bought it. I got it home and discovered it printed perfectly. I then hooked it up to my personal machine (IBM Netvista 1.6ghz running Warp 4.52). I hunted around for a driver and found one here at: http://service.software.ibm.com/os2dd/free/printerpak/en/laserjeten.exe I installed the driver pack and rebooted. Lo and behold, I found my printer in there. I fired up Lotus Word Pro and printed my resume. Absolutely wonderful. I also created some needed business cards with WP-again, no problems. If you find one of these printers, grab it. It's a monochrome laser printer and does wonders for your day-to-day text printing. I'm about to print out several program manuals for my BBS and am really impressed with its quality. It prints at 15PPM, so pretty quick. I'd thought I'd never have this good success getting a laser printer to work with OS/2. |

I will see what other printers it can work with (hopefully one that might work with HP CLJ 1600? - one can hope).

Of the printer drives listed in it, which one could possibly work with my HP color laserjet 1600?

| THe HP Color printer that you're talking about Thomas, is that a PS printer? If so you should be able to print using a close enought postscript printer. |

| I am checking to see if it is a post script printer. I have tried different printer drivers that I think might work with it. Nothing works, yet. I will keep trying. Are there any suggestions on what driver might work with it?

None, because the 1600 is a GDI printer. IOW, it's windows-only. |

7. win32prn? |
|
|
I was hoping that the win32prn project would be an answer but it seems to have been dropped. I was told that it would be uploaded to Netlabs. I was referred to eCups. I will look into to it but it might be awhile before I learn enough of it to use it.

| It looks like this printer is kinda supported (even though with some quirks) by CUPS. So given that eCUPS will ever reach a state of usability, there is a slight chance... |

<quote> I have not downloaded the files available from the below links but there is a good chance that somewhere amongst them is a ppd file which you could use to add support for the hl 1440 to the pscript.drv </quote>I think you have your wires crossed...the HL-1440 is working perfectly with the printer pack I downloaded. It's BWG that is having problems with his Epson. I'm happy to report that my Brother laser printer is working flawlessly. The Brother has native support in OS/2. --Sean |

I had an Epson - once - but could not get it to work. I do not remember the model number; it was a Win printer.
I am having trouble with my HP color laserjet 1600. I am checking to see if there are any other color laser printers that work with OS/2-eCS.
