Kim (17 Jan, 2007 20:57): Okey, I've added following:- Mountain Lion - Lion - Grisly Bear - Lynx
- black bear - phoenix is good - from the ashes of OS/2 comes the new life of eCS(?). I agree with the person who submitted it. - Puma - which is another name for the mountain lion.

| BWG, I accidently discovered a demo CD-ROM for Warp 4, and besides the elephant on it, is a "ball" that is the spokesperson for the CD-ROM. Of course, AmigaOS already has a ball. But, eCS has it's weird 3-pronged ball, so maybe that is it. Personally, I would prefer an animal. |

Might be that we should update Mountain Lion to Puma, more known to say so. Phoenix I think that we can drop, since wasn't the Mozilla people that had problem using this earlier as pre-name for Firefox? |

Okey, I've added Bee to the poll, so drop him an e-mail about. And well why not, nice one. IBM used bee within corporate slogan, I Bee M. |

I remember it as part of an IBM screen saver. It had an 'eye' for the I and a bee for the B. The m was the M. It floated around on the screen and eventually formed eye bee m. A bee would be great since it was used by IBM.

Still hope its not to late for a new suggestion... How about a Tribble? Its .) cosy .) sweet .) lovely and still a menace to the rest of the universe. It starts with only a few, but after a short time... |

| Well, I had to google this one since I didn't know what Tribble was and my dictionary didn't know either. So then it's great that we got Wiki. Only worry I would have if Paramount didn't agree to use one of their trademarks. |

50. Tribbles? |
|
|
It was a very popular episode of the original Star Trek series; The Trouble with Tribbles. It was funny. If they allowed IBM to use 'Warp' in the OS/2 name, perhaps they would allow tribbles to be allowed as the mascott for eCS? The downside is it is just a ball of fur.

Actually, part of IBM's marketing woes was that Paramount didn't let them use Warp. Therefore, Warp was as in bent and not as in speed. Of course, we wouldn't want our mascot beamed to a Klingon ship where they would be "No tribble at all". |

warpcafe (08 Jan, 2007 22:59): Folks,I just wanted to say THANKS! This thread has inspired me to an article that will (hopefully) be published in the upcoming edition of the VOICE newsletter. And I have found a GREAT mascot too... you'll be surprised. Seriously: I urge you to keep on with that topic, and maybe set up (or suggest to Kim) a poll about "what mascot suits best". I'm not kidding! There is much more about a mascot than just "oh, that's a cuddly|cool|hot mascot". Go on! Greetings Thomas
Hi Thomas, today the new Voice newsletter was published. I was expecting (and eagerly waiting) to see your mascot proposal... but saw nothing on the newsletter. So what happened? Will you reveal your mascot proposal elsewhere? Thankyou Bye |

last updated at 02 Feb, 2007 15:33 (1 times) Hi Cris, that was subject to the decision of the editor-in-chief. I would have loved to see the article in time with the thread here at os2world, but he had to postpone this for the next issue (which will be hopefully in time). The reason is that I had another article about Warpstock Europe from organizers view and there was yet another one about the event from visitors view - these have to be published first, else there would be too much time between the event and the article. In addition, VOICE has to check for potential copyright infringements and check if someone might feel "offended" by my (partly) sarcastic speech. You know - laws and so... not funny, I can understand their decision. If all fails, I will put it online somewhere else. But I don't think it'll be necessary. BTW you don't have to wait for my proposal in order to "decide" for a mascot. My proposal was kind of ironical (thus, not a serious proposal). Anyway, I think the article is quite funny. Hope to see it published next month. Sorry guys. And thanks for your interest!!! Greetings Thomas |

So far the elephant seems to be getting the most points. I wonder how difficult it would be to do a stylised elephant?

I should have known since I get the MySQL news e-mail. The mountain lion or puma is third. Hopefully no one else is using it else we run out of animals on the list. The butterfly is fourth but MSN uses it in its commercial (a stylised one). I wish the manatee was on the list.
