Greetings all
I have posted this on a few other forums but so far no joy, hopefully it will be different here,

The system
Warp 4
HP 4403 pavillion
ram 96Mb
Harddrive 3gb

I have created three boot disks using the cdinst command

i put the first diskette in my old computer turn it on
when the machine gets to the floppy disk it comes up with the following error
OS/2 !! sys01475
OS/2 !! sys02027
What I have tried
1) reformating the disks - made no difference
2) downloading the updated disks - exactly the same problem
3) kicking the computer - (it worked the last time I installed OS/2 on a different machine) - but this time i only ended up with a sore toe
4) googling the error - the error only seems to effect existing installs with a corrupt boot sector or a floppy disk left in the floppy drive none of which apply here

The error message seems to come up within seconds of it looking at the floppy disk

I don't believe it has anything to do with the below but just in case...
I haven't formatted the harddrive I am going to use as i assumed that OS/2 would give me the option to format it, I have tried 2 different hdrives one ntfs (winXP) and one fat32 (98se) same problem with both

OS/2 from installation diskettes is UN-able to recognize NTFS- or FAT32 partitions !!!

You need to empty your 3 GB HDD to get further !!

SYS01475: The OS2BOOT file cannot be found !
SYS02027: Insert a system diskette and restart the system !

Looks like your Installation Diskettes are sour !?

Hmmm

probably a dumb question

But with the cdinst command (the one that makes the three boot disks)
It is the first disk i am supposed to use to boot, isn't it?
--I ended up trying all three as i had problems

Also the updated /replacement disks from warpdoctor there are only 2 of them do these replace the original disks 1 & 2 or 2 & 3

Sorry if the questions seem daft i am more than a little baffled thanks

Problem Solved

I'm an idiot

the third disk is the installation disk not the first one, although i had to make 2 copies of it as the first copy failed

edit -- got an error though the install log was something like

primary partition greater than 100Mb
formatting
Format error

IMO, it seems to be a problem with the diskette drive. The drive seems to be unable to read the diskette - it does not find os2boot on it (SYS01475), thus, it requests a "system diskette" (SYS020227). The HD might be innocent.

I suggest checking the following:

(1) It happens sometimes that a diskette created in one diskette drive cannot be read in another drive. This can happen if the geometries of the drives differ too much. I suppose you have created the diskettes in another comuper.
- Are diskettes created in the other computer readable in the HP? For example, create a bootable DOS diskette in the other computer and check, whether the HP will boot from it. If it will then it is not the case.

(2) Most likely, it is not - because the error messages you have got are OS/2 error messages so that something has been read from the (first) diskette. Are you using the same diskettes all the time? cdinst should complain if they are bad but it's not always the case.
- Verify the installation diskettes. At least, run chkdsk. The better verification tool you use the more reliable answer you get.
- Try another diskettes.

(3) HP computers are known by having bags of "extras", found only on HP and required only by HP. It can happen that the loader tries to operate the diskette drive and fails - because it does it the "standard way" and not the "HP way". If it is the case then you can be out of luck.
- Check BIOS. If you find some "extras" concerning the diskette drive then turn them off.

Thanks all

It is all running well now

Once I got the boot disks in the correct order and went for an advanced install I got it to work fine
(apart from me accidently installng a non-existant network card)

Thanks all

Hi Nigel,
CDinst creates the booting diskettes in the following sequence:
1st: the SECOND floppy
2nd: the THIRD floppy ...
... and last ...
the INSTALLATION floppy !!!

The correct nomenklatura in using these floppies are:
1st floppy = Installation disk
2nd floppy = diskette 1
3rd floppy = diskette 2

Of course curious but correct ;-O

A hint:
With the creation of the "Installation Diskette" as last floppy ...
... one can just use it as a starter & continuing the installation
