| Subject | : | eCS-OS/2 Drivers for Linsys Etherfast or Netgear FA311? |

| I bought two network cards thinking at least one would work with my eComStation computer. I installed the Netgear FA311 nic in my computer. eCS did not detect it in the network section. I checked the cd and there were no OS/2 drivers. I have yet to try the Linksys Etherfast (IIRC on the name). I have checked http://www.netgear.com site but found nothing for OS/2. I will be checking the Linksys site for OS/2 drivers. Are there OS/2-eCS drivers for either nic's? I checked http://hobbes.nmsu.edu but it had nothing for Netgear and a pcmcia driver for Linksys. Any information would be appreciated. I might have to buy a Realtek nic since there seems to be support for OS/2-eCS for them.

| Ok, guess that you will get it a bit hard with the Linksys cards. I would go for 3Com or Intel based cards. You mentioned Realtek and thoose works as well, good price and drivers for OS2. |

| http://pws.prserv.net/mckinnis/nicpak/ I was given this link at the forums at http://www.ecomstation.com . It did not list anything for Netgear. There was a couple of ones for Linksys. I will check it out too. If that does not work, I will go with one of the cards that you suggested or a Realtek nic. --- BigWarpGuy - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - OS/2 Warp-ed/eComStation-ed to the very end. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - |

| http://www.os2warp.be/index2.php?name=nicpak I also found a similar list at the above site. Still nothing for the Netgear but there might be a possible driver for the Linksys. --- BigWarpGuy - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - OS/2 Warp-ed/eComStation-ed to the very end. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - |

I'd go with an Intel chipset - they update their OS/2 drivers on a Check it out: http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=698523-001&cat=NET |

| Agree, pick Intel cards. But, if you now have a Realtek card as well, check following search result and I'm sure that you should be able to find drivers for the card you have. |

| I mentioned Realtek since it was one of the listed network cards that show when one changes the network settings in eCS and it was also at the store - Staples - where I bought the other network cards. I will check to see if they have Intel cards. Thanks for the recomendations/information.

| The cdrom that came with the Linksys EtherFast NIC has OS/2 drivers. I was able to install the drivers (sort of, I think I messed up on the installation). I rebooted and it stopped just after loading the driver for the Linksys EtherFast card. There was no mention of the OS/2 driver on the box or in the instructions (at least none that I noticed). I will try to reload the driver once I get the pc to boot beyond that one line (alt-1 at the OS/2 on the boot up? - IIRC , if not a hint would help.)

| I tried the OS/2 driver on the cdrom that came with the Linksys NIC. It would go to the part where the NIC driver would start to load the driver but it would go no farther. I will try to remove the other card information from the settings to see if that works. I did not find an Intel or Realtek NIC at the place where I bought the previous two NIC's (the store is Staples). I did buy the only other brand that they had; Belkin. The box said it had drivers for DOS. I am hoping it also has drivers for OS/2 (on cdrom or the Belkin site).

| I went to http://www.belkin.com and found the chipset used the NIC that most resembles the one I bought. I did not find any OS/2 drivers for it (used 'os/2' in the sites search utility but it did not come up with anything). I used 'realtek' as a search word at http://hobbes.nmsu.edu and came up with rtlt139a.zip and rtsnd323.zip (both for the chipset used in the Belkin card). I will give them a try to see if it works.

eCS had the drivers for the RealTek 8319 chipset that the Belkin small profile NIC uses. I am finally able to get online with my cable modem/network switch. I am a happy camper.

| I had trouble with installing the Linksys on eCS. It has to do with the install scripts. Once installed there will be 2 files in the \ibmcom\macs directory: and once used a modified \ibmcom\protocol.ini You can ftp these from make sure to use binary mode. the lne100 files are all that is needed. Just copy them by hand into the macs directory and run mpts or copy the protocol.ini |

| Hi, I know this is an old topic, but I just got a Netgear FA311 card, and managed to find OS/2 drivers for it. Turns out this card (at least the one I have) is based on the National Semiconductor DP83815 chipset. If you download the NSC.ZIP file from the Nicpak site, and chose the 81815 driver, it works for me. Here's a direct link to the ZIP. http://www.os2warp.be/nicpak/files/nsc.zip Of course, it is possible that Netgear has used a number of chipsets in this card, so I wouldn't guarantee that it will work with *every* fa311 card. But I've had success. |

| I use a LinkSys EtherFast 10/100 PCI NIC in my eCS box. I used the supplied drivers and it seems to work OK. The key is to look for NDIS2 drivers and you should find them on the second diskette. There is one issue though, there is no protocol file supplied on the OS2 side (there's both DOS and OS2 drivers). One the drivers are installed and the box rebooted if you do a 'ping' you will get a "ICMP unknown protocol" error. To fix this just enter: COPY x:\TCPIP\DOS\ETC\PROTOCOL x:\MPTN\ETC Reboot and try your ping again. Gene |
