Hi

In an application I'm working on, I need to accept dropped objects, and display their icons.

With std. files I have no problem.

But system objects (drives etc.) and associations I do !

How can I query which icon is displayed on a systemobject or on a file with an association ?

I am using WinLoadFileIcon, but it returns a null pointer on system objects and the default icon on files with an association !

You may use RDC2.EXE, UNRC.EXE and RC16.EXE to unpack and repack the system DLLs. There are at least PMWP.DLL, WPCONFIG.DLL, WPINET.DLL. Most of the icons are in *.BMP format.

Ok, but I do not want the system-icons as much as the icon (system, associated, assigned or whatever) for a given object !

I don't remember how, but, I'm sure I have seen this done. If you look at the source for XWorkplace, it may have it. Alternatively, ask on one of the newsgroups where Rich Walsh (of DragText fame) hangs out, and he or one of several others there, should be able to answer this.

i have an old book about rexx somewhere and one of the example programs dealt with doing that. it was actuall kind of neat. it would create a folder with all the different system icons and then you could just drop them onto anything that needed an icon.
