I had a quick look at this this evening - it seems that even though it supports SDL, it still requires stuff from svgalib making this a bitch to port.....

Yeah, I figured there'd be some trick to it or it'd be ported to OS/2 already. I admit I didn't realize the extent of the svgalib dependency, though.

I'm slowly starting to learn about programming in a Solaris environment here at work, so maybe I can start thinking about looking at it myself, but I'm a long ways from being much help right now.

Thanks for taking a look at it, though...

Finally got around to looking at this again, now that I'm a bit more experienced at porting stuff

I got it to build pretty easily this time, initial build is at http://smedley.info/zgv-5.9-os2.zip

Note that on my box at least, the mouse pointer vanishes when it's over the zgv window... I'd be interested in feedback on this....

It also requires sdl dll's that are available from ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/sdl/sdl-1.2.10-bin-20060602.zip

Note it does work for things like:
zgv-sdl.exe m:\pictures\scan.jpg and displays the picture quite nicely

All seems to work fine, must start "zgv" using -M to enable mouse use...

Ahhh nice pickup I'll rebuilt in the morning and make this the default for OS/2

I decided to fix right now - http://smedley.info/zgv-5.9-os2.zip is updated with mouse support enabled by default.

Yay!

The SDL dependency on the SNAP drivers is gonna force me to check them out (I'm using 10-year-old Matrox drivers right now).

That might be a good thing, though. We'll see.

Thank you VERY much for your work on this, Paul!

We have received a claim from Paul Smedley for this bounty; so the question here is now; are everybody happy with the provided software that he has released?

I guess Rich is the best judge - he was the original requester + bountier

Well, true, but we still would like to get input from more than just one person; so if there are anything that hasn't been granted with the release, now is the time to speak up.

Paul.

Are you going to post zgv 5.9 as one of your ports on your homepage ?

And I have a little question, If anybody on the community will like to see the source code of your ports, where can them get it. I 'm sure that you made some changes to the originals project code to make it run under OS/2.

Regards

Diff of my changes is at http://smedley.info/zgv-5.9.patch

I'll add it to my site when I get a free moment or two...

Cheers,

Paul.

I do think Paul has done a good job.

I've gone back to the original Matrox drivers, which are slightly slower on my hardware but FAR more stable on my hardware than Scitech's drivers, so I can't use the current zgv port, and I was hoping for a fullscreen port (and not something which depended on running in a window) so I could use it in the same context I use Links, Yarn, NFTP, etc., but a port is a port is a port, and other OS/2 users might find it useful.

Paul deserves the bounty for his hard work. It isn't his fault that other elements on which zgv depends possess what I see as unreasonable and annoying limitations, and I fully support his efforts with zgv.

Hopefully someday *someone* will improve on the SDL video port so zgv will actually be useful to *ME* by letting it run (1) without requiring Scitech's drivers and (2) in a real fullscreen VIO session (which is where a decent graphics viewer is deperately needed).

Until then, we have what we have.

Thanks, Paul... I don't know how you can find the time to do all of the stuff you do.

Well it all started when my mother was diagnosed with cancer - I needed something to distract me and porting was it :/

Now I just can't stop generally speaking though - I spend 1 - 1.5 hrs per day in front of the PC - and that includes chatting on IRC and reading email, etc as well - perhaps more on weekends.

My build environment is pretty good now for a lot of things - and of course updated versions are far easier to build than porting from scratch so maintaining a port isn't that much work.

Cheers,

Paul.
