When using REXX, does it create a CMD or compiled file?

That's not really the correct question. When you write the REXX code, you place it in a CMD file that becomes executable by having the CMD suffix.

REXX isn't "compiled", it is interpreted. However, upon the first execution of a REXX script, the interpreter tokenizes the file and writes the result to the files extended attributes. On subsequent runs these attributes are used (unless you have changed the file again). This results in a bit faster execution.

You save it as 'filename'.cmd (where 'filename' is the name you gave to the file). The nice thing about REXX is one can write it using a text editor like the one that comes with OS/2 or one like the Enhanced editor from Pillarsoft (http://www.pillarsoft.net) or any other text editor that is available.

Being an interpretted language, there is no need to compile it. This is one of the reasons I like it.

Have you been to http://www.rexxla.org - the REXX Language Association web site?
