Question regarding the ipsec that's included in the latest release of eCS; anyone that have info about what hardware they have succesfully managed to get it to work with?

AFAIK IPSec is operating above the hardware level just as normal IP. So it is more a question to find a host on the "other side" that also supports it. Not sure, if the machines in between (routers) also need to support it. Searching with Google several documents came up how to configure it, e.g. for OpenBSD, but I would guess it works similarly for eCS. I wouldn't have noticed that IPSec is included...

ok, then it's the same story as usually; it's matter of find the proper hardware... and everybody tries to implement their own version of ipsec... Bah! Don't you just hate it!? But, it would still be nice if someone could come up with some sort of short report of successfully using eCS and ipsec. /Kim

Kim, what I meant was that you do not need special hardware as long as the Network card is supported by eCS. Or did you find docs that say something different? From a quick look at those OpenBSD docs I though that you just needed to set up a special kind of routing. But I could be mistaken... Where did you find IPSec for eCS mentioned? I had a look through the INF files on my disk, but found nothing...

I was told that ipsec was included within eCS, but I might as well be miss informed. Can't really not verify it since I'm using MCP2 here on my workstation. I'll try to ask again and for some more info.... /Kim

No, you are absolutely right, it is included. The IPSEC.SYS driver is even required to set up the IBM-Firewall, so I am using it myself, but had forgotten! |
