Hi! I've been running Warp 4 on a notebook since 2002. The notebook has USB ports that I haven't needed--until now. What do I need to do to get Warp 4 to recognize the USB ports so I can use my flash drive and my portable printer? Thanks in advance for your prompt answers |

last updated at 26 Jan, 2007 21:31 (1 times) Warp4 didn't come with the USB drivers, only the convience packs included USB. I believe USb was only available to software choice users. if you can find it, you'll need USBBASIC , USBOHCI/USBUHCI (depending on the chipset) the USBMSD (if you're using it for mass storage devices, card readers, hd) There is also a modem, sound and network addon which are optional). You may also need a more up to date OS2DASD driver. you can find the older free usb drivers here: http://www.warpupdates.mynetcologne.de/english/hard_usbold.html mclarenm8a (26 Jan, 2007 20:33): Hi! Thanks, guys. I downloaded usbbasic.exe, copied it to my notebook, followed the install directions, checked my config.sys file to make sure the drivers are installed(they are) and rebooted the system. Upon reboot, a message about the 3 device drivers not being installed and the line(s) in config.sys being ignored showed up. Now what? ? |

Hi
Check that the system BIOS has USB Support enabled. If that does not help then I think you want to post what usb controllers are involved (see output from hcimonit.exe) and the config.sys lines. Regards Pete |

| Reading this, I decided to fool around and see what I could get going. Using Chris's USB drivers, I got USB to work with one of my three USB drives. Here's what is in my CONFIG.SYS: BASEDEV=CWUSBUHC.SYS BASEDEV=CWUSBD.SYS BASEDEV=CWUSBMSD.ADD /V /FLOPPIES:0 /REMOVABLES:3 /FIXED_DISKS:0 /FORCE_TO_REMOVABLE The system saw my 32MB Imation USB drive, but not my Lexar Media JumpDrive. However, I had something very odd for my 512MB Imation USB drive: I reformatted it using FAT and I get "specified drive cannot be accessed". Any ideas? Oh, I'm using Warp 4.52. --Sean |

last updated at 27 Jan, 2007 04:43 (1 times) I see nothing in the system BIOS about USB. Could it be under something else? Also, being a very low tech person, I never heard of hcimonit.exe. What is that and where do I find it? To make life more interesting.....I have a USB mouse on my notebook that I have never plugged into a USB port. It works! Of course that must mean the notebook recognizes USB, bringing up a few more questions: Why won't it accept the USBBasic files? Why won't it print to my new Canon PIXMA iP90 portable printer? Do I need a different printer driver? Current printer driver is IBMNULL Should I be using OMNI.DRV? If I should be using OMNI, where do I find a downloadable and installable copy? Why doesn't the notebook recognize my usb flash drive? Someday everything will work right & I'll fall over in a dead faint.....lol |

Hi Most system BIOS setups have something about USB Support... hcimonit.exe can be found by searching the boot drive. Alternatively install the application mentioned below and that will tell you what Controllers are available to your system and what you have in config.sys. The mouse works because the necessary drivers are installed I guess - So why are you trying to run usbbasic.exe again? A USB "Printer Driver" is a port to print to, not an actual printer driver. You need to find out which, if any, of the Canon printers supported in the OMNI driver work with your printer. The OMNI driver should be on your system if not you need either IBM or eCS "download rights" to obtain the latest (last) version. Download and install the USB configurator, read the docs and see if that helps get your system working http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/system/usbcfgb7a.zip Regards

Hi Sean
Why are you trying to get things working with those old drivers? - You have 4.52 installed; do you have access to the current usb drivers or already have them downloaded somewhere? The only idea I can offer is to start over without CWUSB anywhere near the system. Install this application and use it to configure your system *After* removing CWUSB and installing the most recent IBM USB drivers that you have access to http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/system/usbcfgb7a.zip The above app has a fairly helpful USB Removables FAQ included with the help file. A bit of careful reading and configuring should get things working Regards Pete |

| It is possible that the mouse is working because the system has USB Legacy mode which makes operating systems think that your USB mouse is in fact a PS/2 mouse (and any os or app which supports ps/2 mouse will then work)). You should be using the Omni drv (or another driver which supports your printer) and the port would be set to "USB" which is explained in the USB printer package installation instructions. As I recall the older USB installs in OS/2 weren't smart enough to know which type of USB controller you had, and just installed whatever you had uncompressed. I am not sure if this is the case since it has been a long time since I used it but it is possible that you have the wrong USB host controller drivers trying to load. (OHCI, EHCI (unlikely), UHCI ). I am sure the drivers on that site I linked are good enough to get printing support working =) I have used them for that purpose many times. mclarenm8a (27 Jan, 2007 04:43): I see nothing in the system BIOS about USB. Well, it seems I've misplaced my eCS passwords (I have a legal copy of eCS 1.2) to get the latest drivers...I'll hunt for it. I'll follow your advice and try the newer ones soon. Do you think the stock 4.52 ones would be worth anything? I also DO have that program installed and DID have it working with the IBM drivers setup before I tried the CW setup. Thanks, Sean |

Hi Sean I suggest contacting Bob St John if you cannot find your login data. I think the current USB drivers are better than those previously supplied but other drivers are often involved as well and they should also be updated - especially os2dasd.dmd for usb drive access. I think the outcome of this "chat" is that you really need to get your access to updates via eCS sorted out If you have used eCSMT to update your system at any point in the past then you should still have access through that tool - and, I guess, your ftp server login details but maybe not website login should be stored somewhere within the eCSMT data. | You really need the latest USB drivers. With earlier versions, it was always it and miss as to whether your USB ports would work or not. The fat32 driver info from Netlabs has a section called GETTING THE FAT32 DRIVER TO WORK WITH REMOVABLE MEDIA It is worth reading and gives some good ideas on getting removable media to work. If using a notebook, this is taken from that section: 7.Check to see if you have the following statement in your config.sys file. BASEDEV=OS2PCARD.DMD If it does exist, try remming it out and rebooting. Try your USB devices again. If your USB devices are found and functioning properly, you need go no further. Note: It has been reported that the Card bus 8 driver does not conflict with the USB drivers. However, other problems are introduced. eCS 1.2 comes with the Card bus 5 driver. Thus, if you are using eCS 1.2, you will either need to rem out the driver or install the Card bus 8 driver. If you still don't have your device(s) working, read further. |

last updated at 01 Feb, 2007 18:44 (1 times) Hi Again Thanks for your responses. I appreciate all the info. I have purchased eCs, but haven't received it yet so here goes more of my problem I've been out of town and am just now trying again to get my usb printer to work. Here are the results so far: 1. I copied, installed, and ran the file from USBCFGB7A Results: System Page: Controllers Available: OHCI(usb v1) Quantity: 2 Controller Drivers Installed: UHCI(usb v1) Quant: 1 I/O Page: Driver Information: Printer Vendor: IBM Version 10.039 Usename: $USBPRT 2. Copied and installed USBPRTEN On reboot the following happens(I won't type the entire msg): USBUHCD, USBD, USBHID, USPPRT(OS/2 Boot) Not installed The boot process ignores the Basdev= lines that the above files are on. 3. Tried Printing anyway and get the following error msg: IBM Null PMV8006 There is no paper in the printer. Load the paper There is actually paper in the printer when I try to print I guess I'm too low-tech to figure this out. Help! BTW--is eCs easy to install? Should I get SVista or is it included? Also, how do I locate and download the current omni.drv from eCs? Dennis |

At the OS/2 boot blob, hit Alt+F1 - select "Full Hardware Detection". Perhaps it's just a matter of resources being allocated correctly... |

| Judging from the output the computer actually has a OHCI chipset, however the UHCI driver's are installed. It may just work if you install the OHCI driver instead.

last updated at 01 Feb, 2007 21:56 (1 times) Hi Again Thanks for your responses. I appreciate all the info. Your computer came with one or the other. 2. Copied and installed USBPRTEN On reboot the following happens(I won't type the entire msg): USBUHCD, USBD, USBHID, USPPRT(OS/2 Boot) Not installed The boot process ignores the Basdev= lines that the above files are on. What we need to see is all the statements from you config.sys that have to do with USB drivers. If possible, make a copy of you config.sys file, zip it up, and upload it to this forum. Then we can download your config.sys file and examine to determine your setup. Is ths a Warp 4 only machine or do you have Windows installed on anothter partition that you boot to when you need to do something in Windows? What I am trying to determine is if Windows recognizes your USB devices. As mentioned earlier, it does no good to install the drivers if USB legacy support is not enabled in the bios (CMOS). 3. Tried Printing anyway and get the following error msg: IBM Null PMV8006 There is no paper in the printer. Load the paper There is actually paper in the printer when I try to print To get a printer working, you must meet the following: 1. A working USB port: USB is enabled in the bios and the OS/2 drivers load okay. 2. Install the USB printer package if it is not already installed. 3. OS/2 printer driver installed for your particular printer. 4. Once the printer driver is installed, you need to click on its program object (icon) and tell it to use a USB port. I am not at my eComstation machine right now to tell you exactly how to do this. Hopefully someone else can file in this gap. ecs 1.2 MR and eCs 2.0 come with all the USB drivers and most printer drivers you will need. The problem with using an USB printer with OS/2 and eCS is that the setup is not automatic, it must be done manually. at least that is my experience. Here is a site for USB drivers. However, the latest aren't downloadable since they are not free. Agaom. eCS 1.2MR and later will already have them. http://www.os2warp.be/index2.php?name=usbdrvs Download the fat32 driver and read the section I referred to above in the FAT32.INF file. ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/fat32/f32_0911.zip And even better read is the following html. http://www.os2voice.org/VNL/past_issues/VNL0606H/feature_2.html |

Hi, Tex My notebook is a pure Warp 4 system. No (ugh) windows are installed anywhere. What is USB Legacy? What USB printer package? I don't think there is an OS/2 printer driver for the Canon iP90. I'll hit the links you sent--thank you--and see if I can figure any more out.Dennis |
