XWP allows boot logos and comes with 3. I modified the Penguin from OS2 Warp to eComStation. I started with the eComStation v2 logo from David. This is not nearly as good as other graphics I have seen here but maybe others will come up with other ideas. Unfortunately I have to upload as a jpeg as bmp is not allowed. To use as a bootlogo it must be converted back to uncompressed bmp 1.3 (which the conversions will likely cause even more quality loss than I already had in the creation). |

Since the penguin is (more or less) associated with Linux, wouldn't it cause some confusion if it is used with eComStation? OS/2-eCS.Org has a design that uses a seal. I will look for a copy/file of it.

It might, I always liked the OS/2 Warp logo on the Penguin co-opting it so I wanted to eCS-ize it. Andy |

Ian Manners (29 Dec, 2006 17:07): You can also find a collection athttp://www.ecssite.com/sw/graphics/index.html Cheers Ian Manners
While I could probably put some of those to use for this purpose I think we are thinking of different things. If you have xwp and go to the desktop properties, there is a Workplace Shell boot logo (I should have added Workplace shell to the original description but I hadn't looked at that field... just the text below that). Since Penguin is "cute and agile" i prefer it over the seal that is usually "heavy and slow"... i think the mascot topic has been a point where we haven't been able to produce one that delivers the agile-secure-confidece precense of eCS/OS2. I think a lion could be a better one. Greetings |

abwilis, I like it a lot. However, you may want to use a different penguin, than the Linux Penquin. Keep up the good work. Maybe eCS (OS/2) needs a mascot? Linux has it's penguin, FreeBSD has it's d(a)emon, SuSE had it's chameleon. Personally, I like the penguin, maybe a polar bear? Or, is that a Coca-cola mascot? I think you made a good point with your graphic. Let's all get this (eCS) ball rolling. (AmigaOS already has a ball as it's mascot). Keep the graphics coming! |

| Both the penguin and the seal are agile in the water but not so on land. I prefer the seal (sea lion?) since I consider the penguin already spoken for. Coca Cola uses both a penguin and a polar bear in their commercials but the polar bear is more associated with Coca Cola. It is that Coca Cola would put the penguin and polar bear together since neither would meet in the wild (from opposite [litterally] ends of the world).

Art the Dancing Elephant The penguin ships with xwp with an OS/2 Warp across its belly. I merely updated it with eComStation. But now that you remind me I should see if I can find Art. |

And this one. Both look good in transparent view. I created two new default logos for XWP.

BWG ... I just realized that Killer Whales (Orca) eat seals. But, alas! I had forgotten about Art the Elephant! I remember there were a lot of threads in newsgroups about how to get rid of it! LOL. Man, how time has flown. Is it Elephants still? Or should eCS have it's own mascot? How about a flying saucer or UFO? Both are rare and hard to find. LOL. |

Doing a search shows that everyone was trying to kill Art the Elephant. Hard question about Art though. Art was specifically an IBM thing in that IBMers working on and with OS/2 chose a dancing elephant for a mascot because of "Some years ago, someone in the computer industry said that it would be as hard to get a good personal computer from IBM as it would be to teach an elephant to tap-dance. Shortly thereafter, IBM introduced the IBM PC, and set a new industry standard. Since that time, tap-dancing elephants have been a kind of running joke within IBM." So while I like to hold to tradition in some ways, I am not sure that Art is a tradition that eCS shares... other than to share its common heritage with OS/2. I can't find a good picture of Art though so far anyway so it is somewhat moot. The lion pics of mine was created for the transparent use... the eCS on the second one is transparent as well (the oval around it was supposed to be but really isn't). I like the mountain lion as it is stealthy... hard to find like OS/2 users Maybe a grizzly bear... powerful and no fear and isn't all wet |

| OK. I think we are on a roll. this brainstorming is going to find the right one for a mascot. I think the mountain lion was a mascot for Mercury (remember the cat sitting on the Ford-Lincoln-Mercury sign? Also, MGM uses the roaring lion at the beginning of it's movies. I personally like the mountain lion (AKA couger) as it is a native american animal. How about a panther? It is a pretty cool cat. A relative of the leopard and at night, well, need I say more? Those eyes would be cool! |

20. elephant and seal? |

Combine an elephant with a seal and one gets an elephant seal(?). Since the registration elephant was so difficult to get rid of, perhaps it could symbolise how stubborn OS/2-eCS is in not going away?
