"Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) partner with a local ladies' wear company to roll out a Scottish style NB- Socttish House 233. This NB supports Intel Pentium M740/M360 CPU and priced at NT$39.9k-49.9k. "

It would be cool if the ECS (Elitegroup Computer Systesm [ECS]) could preload eCS (eComStation) on their computer (aka; ECS with eCS .

Hi BWG,

as an assembler and reseller I know Elitegroup for years. Their products are actually not too bad - except for the Notebook I had bought some time ago: That was a 5300 model with a Transmeta 1GHz cpu. Actually, that stuff was really cool except for the graphics chipset which was a SiS315 AGP. It didn't work with Snap and Scitech told me that was because the chipset is actually not designed to be an "onboard" graphics controller and that they wouldn't support it unless SiS sends them (scitech) more technical information.

Sadly, I had to resell the NB and go for an IBM T22. The ecs (elitegroup) model was cool because of the energy-saving Transmeta CPU and the features (dvd-rom/cdrw combo drive, lots of usb that worked with os/2|eCS and so on). Only that darn SiS caused problems.
That again proved me, why I have certain... eh... "resentments" regarding SiS chipsets. To be true - I hate them. Nothing but trouble with their chipsets unless you install windoze. So if ecs again comes up with SiS chipsets, I'ld say "no, Sir".

As to the "ecs with ecs" - yes. That would be funny. On the other hand, the number of eComStation customers is too few to allow a manufacturer supplying a "preload service". But at least, Serenity could come up with a "ready for eComStation" certificate that manufacturers can put on their boxes if they supply a set of ecs-drivers on the CD.
(Which would actaully then be supplied by Serenity)

...sort of dreaming here, I guess...

Greetings
Thomas

BWG,

I did a quick search at the elitegroup site and found the 557 model ("...scottish house LCD cover..."):
http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWeb/Products/ProductsDetail.aspx?detailid=479

And - oops - it's a SiS chipset.
Might be okay if the graphics controller is... ehh... "better" than in the past. Note that the SiS 661 graphics chipset used in the elitegroup 557 model (currently) is not listed at Scitech as a "supported" chipset...

Cheers
Thomas
