1. IBM DDK Discontinued! |
|
|
" As of January 1st, 2004 updates to the OS/2 Device Driver Kit have been discontinued.http://www3.software.ibm.com/regsvs/ddk/ I copied this from the site. If one needs the files, it would be good if they were copied before they are gone.

| Does anyone know where I can get the DDK now? I tried to call IBM but was flogged to death from one operator to another as they tried to find it under "hardware". |

I mirrored the files... One question would be: may I place the files in a public FTP? I don't think so, but it doesn't hurt asking... (^= |

It would be great if we could upload them to http://hobbes.nmsu.edu . I will go to the 'download' section of http://www.ibm.com and leave and ask at the 'feedback' section (I have made suggestions there before on a variety of things such as open sourcing OS/2).

7. Need MASM and MSC compilers! |
|
|
I'm just wondering where to download masm6.0 and msc6.0 which I believe was available for download from IBM for compiling the device drivers. I'll be writing a device driver soon and would really like to get a copy of the compilers. Any help appreciated. |

The V6 MASM and MSC are not on that site. Luckily I have them already. In another note, what is everyone using for a kernel debugger? Does ASDT32 work under Warp 4.0? It just locked up for me. I can't find a debug kernel (although I used one in the past, the chances of finding that version of OS2 and debug kernel are NIL). Are debug kernels available from anywhere? |

Just a couple of things from different post:- ICAT OS2 is the current kernal debugger. I assume it is at Version 6.02 as I have a zip file called ICOS602.zip. Unfortunately, I don't have a link where it came from.
- Watcom C++ seems to be what is being used for device development. MSC6 still works, but, if you are starting a new driver, Watcom is the way to go.
- There is a Yahoo Group for Device Driver developers. It's at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/os2ddprog/. It is a very good group for device driver developers (but useless for anyone else). A search of the posts in this group should find the current ICAT.
- Whenever a new kernal is release, the debug versions are also released. These are normally put on testcase for a few days. They are archived at http://www.os2site.com/sw/upgrades/kernel/index.html.

How complete is the DDK2 project on netlabs? http://ddk2.netlabs.org . Perhaps it should be merged with the latest ddk from IBM and then the OS/2 and ECS community could contine using that site instead of IBM's. The only problem I see with this is as time goes on if IBM makes changes to any driver for ECS they will not be available (this is unless they made a deal with serenity to release it to registered customers) I guess they are just tire of people making free versions of the drivers which they charge for |
