I've for at least a year tried to make my scanner (Mustek bearpaw 1220cu) to work with Tame/2. I know it should and I have after a (long) while realized that I needed some backend stuff, gt68x, with the file PS1Dfw.usb. From the beginning I thought I just needed the Tame/2 pack. I've thought of asking at this forum several times, but I kind of gave it up and thought that my scanner was not supported anyway. But today sucess!

I think its real bad if there are more people as "stupid" as me, that can't make use of this really nice and elegant scanner-software. So the solution, which I haven't been able to find anyware was to just make a couple of catalogues (which I understood when I tested the software via the commandline, because it asked for that path)and place it on the C: drive, like this:

C:\Sane\share\sane\gt68xx\ and in that last folder put the firmwarefile ( PS1Dfw.usb). And voilà, it works! Well I write this to hopefully help other non-technicians that haven't grasped these facts. For other backends I guess you just exchange the last folder and put the right firmware in it.

Happy scanning!

I have to admit, I've never had luck with getting my scanner to work under OS/2. I've tried the various packages, but just no go. But then I've got an old Mustek 600 III EP Plus (an old parallel port version), and from reading reports, use of this unit outside of Windows has been sketchy for anyone with the scanner. Probably time to just update to a newer unit anyways...

FWIW - most USB scanners DON'T a firmware file - I think it's just the gt68xx and snapscan backends....

Can you send me the output of 'scanimage -d gt68xx --help >bearpaw1220u.txt' so that I can add the scanner to Tame?
