| Hi all, I want to change the default folder icon in warp4. I took care of the folder template in the Templates folder with my new folder icon for drag and drop operations but when installing a program that installs a folder on the desktop; it still uses the old folder icon that originally came with warp4. Anyone know of a rexx script floating around for this or another way of doing this. I also want to change all the existing directories that use a generic folder to this new icon without having to change them all manually.(Gasp, what a chore!) regards, |

| LXLite has a tool to do this. Find it on hobbes with <http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=lxlite>. I'm not sure if it will change the icon of existing folders, but, it should change the default for new folders. If you are using XWorkplace, there is a reasonably easy way to change a folders icon to a specific icon. I have a "Setup String" object in the XWorkplace configuration folder. This has the string "ICONFILE=D:\icons\BlueBook.ICO;". As it is in the XWorkplace configuration folder, it adds an entry to the context menu of all folders. Selecting this will set the icon of the folder to "BlueBook.ICO".

| Thanks, I will check into that. I do not use XWorkplace because it alwasy screws up the lighttables on my system when I install and that annoys me. Even the last version 1.0.3 did the same thing until I uninstalled it. The only enhancer I use is Styler/2. regards, |

Ok, that did not work. The utility told me it set the default folder icon to the new one. It lied. When I unzipped a new archive using eZip and told it to create a new folder to unzip the contents to, it still used the old warp4 folder icon. Any other suggestions? I would think that there is a rexx solution to this.regards, |

| So I guess no one knows how to do this eh? Hmmm, looks like I am on my own. The system must use something other then the folder template then. It works with using the folder template for creating folders but something else apparently when installing programs. Why does it want to use that old ugly folder icons still. I though install programs would have used the folder template. Interesting, must be some info out there somewhere for this. Adam |

| Those icons are in the resources of a DLL, don't know by now wich one tho.. To change this you need a resource editor and/or some resource extracting tools.. Or use a rexx script or whatever script/program to create objects.. Chris |

| Ok, that info helps. I do have the tools for that. So I just need to find out which dll has it. Thanks. Adam |

| The .dll you want is PMWP.DLL. There are quite a few folder icons in this .dll; you might want to change several of them. In this list, the number at the beginning is the resource number of the pointer object (remember that OS/2 icons and pointers have the same format), and the text that follows the number is the description. The designations "open" and "closed" indicate the two states of animated folder icons; the designation "neither" indicates that IBM does not support animations of that folder type. 6 Plain folder--open |

PMWP.DLL eh? Well, that certainly narrows down the search. Thanks much.Adam |

| Good luck with it, Adam. Be sure to keep us posted on how it works out and on how you did it!---

| Sure, I will let you know. I have already extracted the resources from the dll. Quite a few icons in there. Actually the "icons" are ptr files except for two bitmaps. Adam |

| As you are using Warp4, this won't help, but, it should be mentioned... eCS has an "Icon Theme Manager". This will allow replacement of all the system icons. The icons are built into resource files, and the manager will apply these to the appropriate system DLL (including PMWP.DLL). There is also an "Icon Themes Toolkit" (see <http://www.cs-club.org/~alex/os2/utils/>). This has the instructions for building the resource files used by the Icon Theme Manager. At the very least, this is useful as it has some documentation for all the icons in PMWP.DLL. But, I think that the resource files built by it, should also be usable with the Warp4 PMWP.DLL.

I already know how to replace the resources and have the tools to do it. I just needed to know which dll it was. I have no acess to a ecs machine. This is; as I mentioned, warp 4. I am confident most eCs users have discovered the them manager - or at least I would hope they have by now. This is mainly for me. I am just experimenting with different folder icons - that's all. I am just doing it for the fun of it. I would imagine the theme manager is built upon the same principles and under the hood uses the same tools but that is just an educated guess and might be incorrect. I might just create a theme manager for myself to work on warp4 so in the future when I create more icon sets I will not have to do it manually. Who knows. I think it would be fun if nothing else.Adam |
