I bought a HP DeskJet 500 today (because I know it'll work well with OS/2 and it's a good, solid printer). The printer didn't come with a power supply and a cursory search on Google and Ask hasn't turned up much. Does anyone out there have one? It has a unique horizontal right-angled four-hole connector on one end of the power pack.

If anyone can help me find one or has one, please email me or let me know.

Thanks,
Sean

Hi Sean

I did need a replacement ps for a Deskjet 840 a couple of years ago.

I found a suitable (generic) ps from a computer shop that also specialised in printer repairs (mainly laser) - but it was only slightly less than a replacement inkjet printer of similar capability would have cost.

So, suggest you try to locate a printer repair specialist in your area - or get a newer printer.

If you decide on a new printer then you may run into driver problems...

A lot of the Canon inkjets work with the earlier i series drivers; or look for a printer with postscript capability.

Hope the above is of some use

Pete

That's precisely why I got this printer. At $3, it wasn't too bad. I have - since I posted - found power supplies on eBay for about $20. If worse comes to worse, I'll just build my own.

I actually have a printer here - a Panasonic KP-P2324, which is a 132-column, 24-pin printer - but I just need an inkjet to print the occasional "nice" letter (since I do run a small business from home). Even if I drop $20 on a power supply, it's worth it.

Thanks for your suggestion!

Later,
Sean

I agree, I've got an old HP Deskjet 560C (same basic line as the 500), and it works very well with OS/2.

One place to check is thrift shops and second hand stores. I frequently see DJ5x0 line models in thrift shops, complete with power supplies, for less then $10.

If I haven't thrown them out I may have one or two of these power supplies in a storage shed. If I do you can have them for shipping cost.

I have had several of these in the past. 500 500c 540c 693c etc the have all worked for basic tasks

One note they are nominally (500series) 150dpi printers.
There are special drivers in Coreldraw that allow 300dpi printing with some of these old hp printers. (for win16)

the hp 800 and 1100 (large format ) are actually much more useful if you do graphics.

contact me off list...I seldom come here anymore as my businees is now migrated to linux, and I haven't had much "hobby" time lately. (Spring on a ranch)

I'll try and check for these by tomorrow. They are in my other house/studio or a storage shed, I'll be by there later. (things are spread out on a ranch LOL)

Well, I have an HPDJ550C which is no longer in use because I was not able to really clean the ink park station, so the printer has been replaced. But the printer is still her...

The power supply should be equal to the HPDJ500, and it works.

If you are interested, contact me.

Just a followup: the printer has been working very nicely and I don't print much, so that big HP 26 inkjet cartridge is enough for me. I do have my three (!) dot matrix printers I can set up and use if I really need it.
