Subject  :  80 Gig Hard Drive and eCS?

My hard drive crashed/starting beeping and was very very slow. I bought a new hard drive. It is 80 gigabytes. I partitioned it into two; c: with 4 gig and d: with the rest. I was able to install eCS 1.1 onto c:. I tried to format d: with HPFS but it did not work. I tried it in the os/2 window but it was too big. I noticed that one of the options is jfs (the other two with /fs: is hpfs and fat). Would it be able format the larger partion using 'format d: /fs:jfs ? I will give it a try tonight but I thought I would get some opinion/recommendations today. Thanks for any help provided.

Shouldn't be any problem; but the issue could be if the bios of the system can handle large disks; so check the documentation for the bios what the max size is.

It cannot work. A HPFS partition cannot be larger than 64G. Basic info about HPFS and JFS can be found at

http://www.os2.cz/article1.html

(Don't worry Even if the site is Czech, the article is in english.) Therefore, you need to format the big partition as JFS.

Ops! hpfs, sorry for that statement! Running jfs on my side and take so for granted that one totally forgets what ones runs as fs on the disks.

I tried to format the second larger partition using /fs:jfs but it required lvm. I subdivided it in half and was able to format them using hpfs. I was not sure of lvm so I took the easier/lazier way out.
