Ben Dragon (15 Apr, 2004 18:42):
Agree, I started of using WatchCat, then we got Process Commander... but since of problem with PC together with OS2 v4.52 I had to try out some other tools and I ended up usign WatchCat once again. It's one of the first tools that I install on my system, always!
eCS 1.1 and Process Commander working fine here though with the loss of a few functions. Though I'd like to see the last version of PC source code released and updated.
Ok, I haven't tried it out for a while, but I recall that it wouldn't work at all for me under WSFeB. You mentioned that it works without any problem except for some minor features; such as? |

It works ok, whithout the enhanced keyboard driver... There is the need to use the alternate keyboard driver (which doesn't support most PC features). Also, the SystemMenu priority control seems to be broken, many times my system hangs if I try to use it (and it also doesn't support Fixed High priority introduced on Warp 4). Anyway, the install process is painfull, requiring a lot of manual steps. It would REALLY nice if Stardock release this software as OpenSource. I do not believe it'll happen, though. |

I used it for a while. I seem to recall that I had to uninstall it when I bought Lotus Smartsuite. It was not compatible with fixpack 5 I think. I hope I will be able to use it - or something like it as it was usefull. Should really be a part of eCS spec - IMHO.

| Hmm... that actually rings a bell or two, sort of recall that there was something with fp. But, well I'm rather happy with WatchCat; then again it's not often that I need to use it. |

| Well, most of the important stuff works now with eCS 1.1 AND Lotus Smartsuite installed. Thing's that require a specialized keyboard driver don't work like there's no emergency window. However, I can still hit C-A-F12 and up pops the full screen VIO version of PC and I can still call the Assistant for additional information and I can still kill pretty much everything. Right now I find the functionality somewhere between WatchCat and a fully working PCommander. You can still get the desktop PC, (GUI and VIO), and most of the other stuff works. I still find it indespensible. It would indeed be great if we could get it released... hell what we would REALLY want is the unfinished version 2.0 of PCommander. It had some problems and was withdrawn and never completed but that would be the best place to start... or just a new keyboard driver and the old one.

| Release of this software will never happen. Check the thread on Stardock's news server from a long time ago. Long story, short... Brad did talk to the author about releasing this software. They declined. End of story. |

| A pretty strange attitude to have really, given how long it's been since they sold it... unless they eventually plan to update and re-release it... not likely. But, it's their software and it's their decision. 8( Maybe we can send them a whole lot of postcards telling them how good it is and they are.
