About the patent issue with JPEG it's not really a new topic but guess that since that Forget Network now claims that they have the right to licens fees for the JPEG format it sounds as a joke as it did earler. Just reading their statement here .A good suggestion to follow would be the one that SlashDot users suggest is that to send back following email to Forget Network:
Dear Forgent Employee,
Attached is some of my porn collection. I am returning it to your company because I inadvertantly used your patented JPEG format.
The rest is still to follow. My printer is slow. Playmate Debby especially requires a lot of ink because of her unorthodox techniques and tools, as you can clearly see in image #4057.
Thank You for your patience and understanding,
Even if the PNG-format is around I don't agree as many other that this is a great format to use instead of JPEG since file size always get bigger when saving pictures etc in this format. Mostly simple logos and others block based graphics works out as it should. Another issue is that not all browsers supports the PNG format (looking at OS2 World around 20-40% of the visitors doesn't support it).
Software Patens just plain sucks!
