| I am using eCom 1.2mr. When I plug in the usb flash drive, where is it mounted? When I look under drives I see a coppy of floppy symbols, a couple of harddrive symbols (my drive is partitioned), a CD icon and refesh removable media icon. |

zizban (28 Dec, 2006 00:54): [...] refesh removable media icon.
Try double-clicking on the removable media icon and obseve what drive(s) appear next. Alternatively, from an OS/2 command prompt, type: LVM.EXE /rediscoverPRM

| Have you used LVMGUI to see if it shows the drive. If so, you may need to delete the partition and then use LVMGUI to make the partition. Some partitions, LVMGUI cannot delete. I then boot to Windows and delete the partition there and then boot back to eCS to create the partition. Then format your partition. If FAT32, you will need to use Windows or DFsee. David |

I have eCS 1.2r on my Thinkpad T23. When I attach an USB flash drive, it shows it as a hard drive. I have one hard drive with one partition and it shows as c:. The USB drive is shown as a secondary hard drive. Try clicking the on the secondary (or third depending on how many partitions you have on your main hard drive) and see the results. You might want to compare the two lists before and after attaching the USB drive.

| Check the BIOS utility of your machine; when you start your machine there is a dialogue that notifies you how to enter into SETUP (i.e., BIOS setup). Once you are able to look at the BIOS settings, search for anything related to USB. Proceed to change the setting from OFF to ON if pertinent. Due to the proliferation of WinXX, most machines' BIOS are tunned to the MS operating system settings by the manufacturers. That leaves those of us who do not adhere to the MS "standards" to modify our own choice of OS settings. For a concrete example, in some Dell machines there are a couple of BIOS settings: USB Emulation (which should be to ON --but its default is OFF since WinXX can still access the USB support) and USB Controller (which, naturally has to also be to ON) After those changes, make sure to save your settings as you exit. Proceed to reboot your machine into OS/2 and check you USB mass device as elaborated in prior posts. Best of Luck ! |

last updated at 29 Dec, 2006 11:17 (1 times) Hi zizban, you should first check that you have correctly installed USB drivers in config.sys. You should also check the version of your USB drivers... latest drivers are really good, and I've never had problems with those. Some suggestions: 1) from a command prompt run "hcimonit" and then tell us what you get. 2) download and install usbcfg from hobbes (http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/system/usbcfgb7a.zip). this will help you correctly install and configure your USB drivers 3) run the following commands from a command prompt and report to us (where x: is your boot drive): cd x:\os2\boot bldlevel usbhid.sys bldlevel usbmsd.add bldlevel usbohcd.sys bldlevel usbuhcd.sys bldlevel usbehcd.sys 4) when you have completed the steps above and rebooted try again to plug your device and report to us Hope this helps... Hi zizban
In response to point 3 above: Start with the readme file... You should have a USB object in the System Setup folder if the install went OK. Run the application - and do not be afraid of the Help button as there is a lot of useful info available including a USB Removables FAQ which I think could be very helpful to you. Based on the bldlevel reports above you need to download and install eCSMT from ecomstation.com and then set about updating your system - USB, IDE, DASD components will all need updating to current levels. Hope the above helps Pete |

Have you tried other USB drives to see if other ones work? I have an USB007 drive that does not work with eCS but I have many others that do(a wristband usb drive, one with a 'Coca Cola' logo on it, one from given out by DELL, and others).

I doubt if the usb chipset is the problem - more likely to be a case of getting all system drivers involved up to date (Note: this includes IDE and DASD) and then using USBcfg to configure the usb devices; especially the usbmsd.add driver which an eCS install often leaves in a mostly useless state - quite often the cause of eCS failing to "see" usb drives attached.
The bldlevels for all usb controllers, usbd.sys, usbhid.sys and usbmsd.add drivers involved : 10.162 OS2DASD.DMD : 14.104 I'm currently using the Danis IDE Drivers, danis506.add is 1.7.7 and daniatapi.flt is 0.3.19 Otherwise purchasing a usb controller card may only cause further frustration when you bump into exactly the same problems...
If still stuck after using USBcfg to configure your system then post your config.sys file and a detailed list of USB devices that you are trying to configure. I have noticed that some flash drives have some sort of incompatible partition which means the system recognises the device when it is attached but the device is inaccessible. If that happens you will need to repartition the device using either LVM of DFSee ( see www.dfsee.com ) and then reformat with whatever file system - usually FAT for smaller devices. Regards Pete |

I have both of these working with eCS. To get working, I destroyed the partitions and created with LVM. I also use the latest USB drivers found in eCS 1.2 and eCS 2.0. Is this a desktop or notebook you are trying to get the USB drivers to work for? |
