1. WD90C24 and OS/2 ? |
|
|
| I have an IBM Thinkpad 750Cs notebook computer with a Western Digital WD90C24 video chipset/adapter. I have been looking for the OS/2 driver for it. I have also been looking for the company web site. I have found neither. Any help would be appreciated. PS Will SDD/2 work on this older adapter/chipset?

I found a driver for it (actually one for Western Digital but not my chipset) at Hobbes and one for my chipset at http://www.os2site.com (in the software/drivers section). I have not had a chance to try it since the screen on the notebook computer is malfunctioning. I have a new(er) screen on its way to me. BigWarpGuy

I have a new(er) Thinkpad (755c). I don't know if it uses the same video chipset. If it does, I will try what I have found. If not, I will have to start looking all over again.

last updated at 28 Jun, 2002 19:58 (2 times) Hmm I checked the TP Matrix myself and saw that the C and CS model was not included with OS2 drivers. Of all models of the 755 range you manage to pick the one that didn't have the OS2 drivers And the it looks like that the SDD drivers won't do the work. What about the IBM grad drivers? I never really checked the list over the chip the driver supports. /Kim |

When I installed Warp ver 3, it showed that it had the same video chipset. I only have a vew colors but it works. There were video drivers for OS/2 at the Thinkpad download page (IIRC - there were for an earlier version of OS/2). I was able to find an OS/2 driver for this chipset. Both the 750Cs and the 755C were obtained (high bid) at eBay.com. I was able to install and run Warp ver 3 on both computers. I only paid about $25 for either notebook computer.

I am amazed how fast they are. They are not the latest models (not even close) but I don't mind. Since I don't have DOS or Win-OS2 support installed, it runs quite well. It is amazine what one can find on the internet and at eBay.com. BigWarpGuy

The os on my notebook 'crashed' (refused to load since there was a conflict with a program). I re-installed Warp ver 3. It installed succesfully (I had problems in the past). I was able to select the WD90C24 chipset from the list in 'vga' list part of the installation. I now have 256 colors (before I only had 16 colors. It looks alot nicer. I have DOS support, again (I removed it when I messed up the DOS directory).

I have copied SNAP for OS/2 to my notebook computer. I tried to install it but it needs at least a fixpak 32 but all I had installed was fixpak 26. I have to try a newer fixpak before trying SNAP again.

| I would would suggest that you upgrade to the latest FP actually. There is nothing to loose and as well I think that FP26 isn't Y2K ready either. /Kim |

I have fixpak 15/WarpUp cd-rom. It has the latest fixpak on it (for both ver 3 and ver 4) - at least the latest that does not require a subscription to Software Choice. The trick is getting it installed on my notebook computer which does not have a cd-rom drive and my attempts (so far) to connect an external one has been futile but I am still trying.

| Either you just have to use the diskette drive and get over the files. Or what you could do is to find LapLink (DOS application) and then set up LapLink betwen two system and copy over the files. LapLink works fine in OS2 systems. |

I have LapLink for OS/2 somewhere (it is on a diskette). I have a null cable (I know where that is). I will give it a try (if I can find my laplink for OS/2 diskette]). Thanks for the recommendation.

There are times I use the DOS version of PKWare when the OS/2 version of PKWare does not work. I have WarpZip to be pretty good but it does not seem to handle more than one diskette well - if at all (sometimes I zip stuff to more than one diskette when copying programs to my notebook computer).
