Insert the WebSphere CD into your CD-ROM drive. 2. Change to the WebSphere401 directory of the WebSphere CD. 3. Run the command file "install.cmd". 4. Follow the instructions on the installation panels to complete the installation. On the Choose Installation Options panel, it is recommended that you select the Typical Installation. This selection will install all components of WebSphere. For descriptions of the Custom Installation option and command line options for silent and unattended installations, see the InfoCenter after you install it as described in section 3.2. The installation program places a new folder named WebSphere 4.0.1 on the desktop. See the InfoCenter for a description of the icons in the folder and what they are for. 3.2 Installing WebSphere InfoCenter
The WebSphere InfoCenter is in the "infocenter" directory on the CD. There are two installable modules in the InfoCenter. The first module contains information that applies directly to WebSphere Application Server on OS/2. This module must be installed because it contains specific information about post-installation, getting started, and troubleshooting for WebSphere on an OS/2 system. The second module is the base documentation for WebSphere Application Server, Advanced Single Server Edition, on all platforms except OS/2. This module covers many topics in depth including development tips, administration, and others. This module is optional, but if it is not installed some of the links in the OS/2 specific part which reference multiplatform information in the base module will be presented as errors by your browser. The InfoCenter must be installed after WebSphere Application Server is installed. To install the InfoCenter, with the WebSphere CD still in the CD drive, complete the following steps: 1. Double click on the "WebSphere 4.0.1" icon which was placed on the OS/2 desktop when you installed the WebSphere Application Server. 2. Double click on the "WebSphere Command Environment" icon in the WebSphere 4.0.1 folder. 3. Perform all the following steps in the "WebSphere Command Environment" window which is now open. 4. Type "h:\infocenter\install", where h: is your CD-ROM drive letter, then press the Enter key. 5. From the menu presented, decide which modules to install. Type the number for your selection, then press the Enter key. When the InfoCenter installation completes, it writes a log file, InfoCenterInstall.log, in the parent directory of the AppServer, typically C:\WebSphere. You can use this file to review the messages displayed in the command window during installation. Disregard the following errors at this time: o Error 19 in Dom2Spt -- in addHistoryElement() -- Element appserver was not found. o Error 17 in Dom2Spt -- in addEvent() -- History element could not added. o Error 13 -- Failed to add event node. To view the InfoCenter, either type "viewInfo" then press the Enter key or open the WebSphere 4.0.1 folder on the desktop and double-click the InfoCenter icon. Either method starts a browser displaying the InfoCenter Welcome page. NOTE: If you want to reinstall the InfoCenter, you must first manually remove the existing InfoCenter files under the c:\WebSphere\en directory before reinstalling. __ 4.0 STARTING WEBSPHERE APPLICATION SERVER To get started running WebSphere Application Server, complete the following steps: 1. Stop then restart the IBM HTTP Server. 2. Open the WebSphere 4.0.1 folder on the OS/2 desktop. 3. Double click on the First Steps icon. 4. Click on the line "Start the Application Server" __ 5.0 UNINSTALLING WEBSPHERE APPLICATION SERVER
To uninstall WebSphere Application Server, complete the following steps: 1. Before starting the uninstall process, stop the IBM HTTP Server and the WebSphere Application Server and close any open WebSphere Command Environment windows. 2. Start uninstallation by selecting OS/2 Warp -> WebSphere 4.0.1 -> Uninstall. 3. On the dialog that appears, click Uninstall to delete WebSphere. 4. To completely remove WebSphere, files changed after installation and the InfoCenter files must be removed manually. __ 6.0 WORKAROUNDS Admin Console and Netscape 4.6.1 for OS/2 Issue: The Admin Console will not open in Netscape 4.6.1 on a Japanese or Traditional Chinese language machine.
