1. Is pmINews still alive? |
|

last updated at 28 Nov, 2002 17:47 (1 times) Just curious but does anyone know if pmINews is still under some sort of development or is to be called a dead product? An OpenSource idea maybe?/Kim |

| Hmm... seems like that pmInews are sort of dead then since nothing has been said. What would be the preferred news reader to use currently today instead of pminews? /Kim |

| Both above links are pointing to the same software on two different urls. So if the url to Stardock says that it isn't developed anymore this would go for SouthSoft as well. Then again SouthSoft is another company but it has been really silent around them since 1998..... |

| I don't think PMINews is still alive. But wasn't there a NewsReader/2 or something included with TCP/IP for OS/2 (when that was a product) or included with Warp? Or is it just that that newsreader is crap? |

| Guess it's rather dead now, but I still thinks it's the best newsreader around. There are some other projects still alive, but must say that none of them can compete with PMINews (MHO). /Kim |

| I am still running it. I have a couple helper programs I put together for Yenc posts. I have not been able to contact the author either. I have left a few messages and tried through Stardock and Southsoft with no luck. I would love to get the code to make a couple bug fixes. -Bart |

Would be great to get intouch with any of the companies/people behind PMINews. If anyone has a clue how to get any response out of the correct people; please let us know. Also, sending an e-mail to info@southsoft.com gives an error saying that the address has permanent fatal errors (550). /Kim |

| Well, here is an answer from StarDock: We no longer sell it, but http://www.southsoft.com/ still lists it as one of their products. Please contact them to see if it is still available. /Kim |

I'm also still running PMINews registered. I found my old serial number when I recently re-installed OS/2 Warp 4.52. Still my favorite OS/2 newsreader. Steve |

| Hello Robert Novitskey and Evan Goldring were the principles of SouthSide Software Inc. "SouthSoft". I searched the web for each of their names but found only one likely "hit" in recent years; eg. http://msdn.microsoft.com/chats/embedded/embedded_022102.asp Good luck with your efforts in contacting the PMINews developers. They did some really great work. Kris Lake Kim (Feb 25, 2003 19:20):
