| Is there an anti-vyrus for OS/2-eCS? If there is more than one, which is the best one?

| I used Norman Antivirus for a while, there is a serial number on eCS:s homepage if you login. I think it last for three months. Clamav is another one, din't manage to make it work. I think it's a Linux port(?). I stopped using Norman because I never had any virus. I guess its still just three known viruses for OS/2-eCS. A thing that I've thought about is if Win viruses can use Odin to infect eCS?

| Hi, first - Norman is the only available solution for os/2 and/or eCS that comes with an ON-ACCESS scanner by having a file system filter driver. Other stuff (Norton/Symantec/IBM if still available) only have ON-DEMAND scanners which means they have no protection against virii trying to install themselves. While it's true that there's not much threats in the wild for OS/2-based systems, it might be worth having these machines not being "hosting" malware that could spread via a network. With ODIN, hmmm... most malware on windoze nowadays is aiming on using security leaks. These leaks are available via certain DLLs. If these DLLs are active and available in e.g. ODIN, then... it's possible to have the malware running on ODIN as well. But - general note: Greetings |

| I downloaded and installed the OS/2 version of Norman anti-vyrus software. It found some vyrus stuff (some show 'heap full'). I will do a complete scan tonight (it was late when I started it). Thank you for the information and links.

| The Norman product is a great product and even if there aren't that many virus around for OS2. But, still it might be usefull to scan incoming e-mails so that you don't forward virus or infected files and here you could make use of ClamAV as for on-demand scanner to have it to scan incoming e-mails. |

I have broadband/cable modem. My download speed had slowed to that of a dialup. After I had used the Norman anti-vyrus, my speeds are back to broadband speeds (sometimes even faster than what I had before).

Hi BWG,
the "heap full" message is not a virus - it's an error from the scanner module: This happens mostly with ZIP files that the engine is unable to unpack for scanning in GUI interactive mode (e.g. too many/too large files in the ZIP). In VIO on-demand scanner, the scanning works without errors.
Strange! Usually, response time and perfomance will decrease with an AV installed... did you remove any files that were told to be infected? Greetings |
