last updated at 01 Aug, 2006 16:50 (1 times) The bad thing with os2warp.be:s wifi driver page is that, AFAIK, the "generic prism" driver so often referred to, is not public, but only for developers. They are private drivers. That means many cards is not usable for ordinary users. Am I right?

I downloaded the ones from the member download section of http://www.ecomstation.com . I will give them a try; see if it works with the T23 wifi card (I think it has one built in) and with the wifi pc card I bought from eBay.

I installed it but it does not see the builtin wifi of the T23 (assuming it had one). I am still waiting for the wifi pccards to arrive.

I have received the two Intel Pro wireless 2011b lan pc cards. I installed it in my T23. I booted it but the Prism2.5 driver did not detect the pc card. I have looked into the settings for network cards but it is not listed. Is there another driver for this pccard?

The pc card plug and play sees it as an Intel Pro/Wireless PC Card. I have eCS 1.1 on my Thinkpad T23.

There is an OS/2 section on the cdrom that comes with the cards. I will give it a try.

Unfortunately those drivers have been listed as "private" and "under development" with the note that they will eventually turn up on software choice / passpport advantage (and thus, become available to eCS users too) for quite some time now (the last update on that webpage is listed as 2004). At this point, since IBM has pretty much dropped support f5or OS/2, I don't expect to see that generic prism driver turning up on SWC / PPA anytime soon. Perhaps Serenity can get a license for it from os2warp.be? One thing which we can find out from this website is the name of the file for the Generic Prism driver: genprism.2.0rc4.zip I don't know if the file is the same, if it will actually work, or if it is properly licensed for further distribution, but Google seems to be able to find a location for that file. .. |

Have you take a look at the GenMac drivers ? ftp.netlabs.org/pub/genmac/genmac100.zipPossible there is a driver that works with the 2011b. I currently have a Thinkpad T42 with a internal Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter, and works fine under OS/2 Warp 4.52. |

last updated at 09 Aug, 2006 17:08 (1 times) Genmac and Genprism are two different drivers. Genmac is an attempt to develop a "universal" network card driver, similar to how SNAP can support most modern video card, UniAudio can support many modern sound chipsets, etc. But what makes it a little different from SNAP or UniAudio is that it is an attempt to be able to use Win32 drivers under OS/2, putting an OS/2 "wrapper" around Win32 drivers. This way hopefully in the future almost anything with a Windows driver will be able to function under Warp (at least that's the theory). While I have never tried Genmac, I have heard that the latest version works pretty well. You can find a good article on it in the Voice newsletter at: http://www.os2voice.org/VNL/past_issues/VNL0606H/feature_4.html You can download the latest public release at: ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/genmac/ While I have never tried Genmac, it has been reported to work with various wireless network cards. On the other hand, GenPrism is a driver specifically written for 802.11b wireless network cards with the Prism (Prism 1, 2, 2.5, or 3) chipset. From what I understand it is a native OS/2 driver, does not use any Win32 code / drivers to make it work. But it is limited to only working with wireless network cards with the Prism chipset (or Prism compatible I would imagine). |

I tried that driver with my IBM High rate wireless card (prism-based) which normally uses the ibmwifi2 driver (i think the name is) and it works just as good with that driver, as it seems!

I tried the two drivers. I tried the xwlan program. It said that there were no cards loaded. I will keep trying.

I triend the GenMac with the eCS 1.2 A22m. The program that detects hotspots indicates there is no WLAN card detected but the driver is shown(?). I think there is a Wifi card built into the A22m and I have the Intel Pro/wireless 2011b lan pc card inserted. I have tried installing the files from the cdrom that came with the pccard. It shows an OS/2 directory but I am unable to find any instructions for OS/2. What is the card listed as in the network card setup? Is the network card setup used or some other program? The plugnplay sees the card as memory.

| Here's the secret to getting GenMac and XWLan working with wireless PC cards: http://kannegieser.net/~veit/ Go to the directory for test versions link and get cbenable_test.zip and pciconf_test.zip. After many frustrating hours, I came across mention of them on the GenMac gmane forums. They allowed my DWL-G650 card to be recognized on my Thinkpad T21. |

I found them and installed them. I am now looking for a 'hot spot' to try them with.

I bought a wireless hub/router thing and have connected it to my cable modem and desktop to it. Once I confirm that the drivers for the pcmcia wifi card are installed, I will use it to see if the drivers/card works.

I used it in place of my hub but I could not connect to the internet. I put the hub back and connected the wireless to it. There were Win and Linux drivers but not for OS/2. The driver would not load onto OS/2; there was a a dos error when I tried. I am still hoping that I could use it to see if the wifi cards in the Thinkpads (with eCS) running eCS 1.1.

last updated at 29 Sep, 2006 21:29 (1 times) I forgot to add that it is a D-Link WBR1310 wireles router. One has to load the cdrom software/drivers to use the router.Since I could not load the driver onto the eCS pc, I could not use the router.
