Subject  :  eCS 1.1 and a Thinkpad 600?

I am trying to install eCS 1.1 onto an older Thinkpad 600. It gets to the eCS ball/logo and goes no further. I have replaced the hard drive and it checks out okay. It has a 5 gig hard drive, 233 mhz Pentium II cpu and 163 meg ram. One can boot from the cdrom drive (it has the internal cdrom drive and it boots the eCS 1.1 disc one). Any help will be appreciated.

I am having a tough time installing ECS 1.1 on a Thinkpad 600 (64 M Ram)

I gleaned that it is good to pull out the PCMCIA net card while installing yet it gets to the 2nd boot and then runs aimlessly with no disk activity.

I had it working on a T23 fine so I know it is not the disk.

Any ideas or workarounds for this Thinkpad?

Hello!
The usual question. If you press Alt+F2 at boot up,which you surely already has done, where does it hang?

I have not tried the 'alt-f2' yet (for some reason I did not think of it). I will give it a try.

I have ordered a refurbished Thinkpad T21 (IIRC from the order). I paid $400.00 for it from Shoppers Advantage ( http://www.shoppersadvantage.com ). It comes with Win98 but I will try installing eCS 1.1 onto it.

It was not easy to do (press alt-f2 at bootup) since it quickly goes to 'freeze mode'. I did get it and it shows the following where it stops.

cdfs.ifs \ibmcdrom.dmd z:\hpfs.ifs \locatecd.sys

This is out of range for my knowledge, but I guess that someone knows what it could mean.

"cdfs.ifs
\ibmcdrom.dmd
z:\hpfs.ifs
\locatecd.sys
\ecs\boot\unicode.sys
z:\jfs.ifs
z:/testcfg.sys
\ecs\boot\dos.sys
\ecs\boot\pmdd.sys
\ecs\boot\pointdd.sys
\ecs\boot\mouse.sys
\ecs\boot\usbkbd.sys
\ecs\boot\usbmouse.sys
\ecs\boot\usbresmg.sys
z:\erasefil.sys"
This is what shows when I chose a different hard drive driver and cdrom driver (alt-f2 when booting).

Isn't time you give up on this lemon 600 you got?

Now if you are going to 21 maybe you'll have
better luck:-))

Just a teaser.........

ciao!!

I was able to get eCS 1.1 installed on the T21 after chosing the IBM drivers. The reason I bought the T21 since I got tired of trying to install eCS onto it. I will use the hd from the 600 in one of my mini-itx projects.
